I don't mind the shitty CGI at all, but I'm incredibly disappointed that they're skipping the Lost Children chapter and even more disappointed that they're completing cutting the Black Swordsman arc.
In the end, I don't care if it looks bad so long as the story it tells is accurate to the manga it's based off of. Right now, it's looking pretty bad. I'm sure the final Conviction chapters are gonna be more accurate (maybe not since they already seem to be shying away from violence and those are some of the most gruesome in the entire series) since they have so many episodes to work with. That being said, they could just be rushing it all so that they can get to the Incarnation Ritual chapter as soon as possible because everyone has a hard-on for Griffith. Regardless, things look grim.
First episode was okay. I'll keep watching it for the entertainment factor, even if it turns out to be bad. With the style that they're going for, though, I highly doubt the characterizations will be anywhere near as good as the manga, though.

I personally think that Lost Children is a bit overrated, and Miura dodged an "apostle of the week" mistake by going right to Binding Chains after.
That aside, I would have loved to see to the Black Swordsman arc on screen. I think it's important since it's where Guts gets his behelit and we're introduced to Theresa, who I'm sure will appear again. Also, Black Swordsman is my least favorite arc, so I would have liked to see it redeemed in an anime. Dame shame that's not gonna happen.

I agree. With the censoring we've already gotten, I'm starting to get Terra Formars flashbacks.
That being said, Birth Ceremony and Iron Chain chapters are really gory, so we can either expect a lot of censoring or most of it to get cut altogether. If they're trying to appeal to a younger or wider audience, it's just gonna be a disaster. With Berserk, you either have to go all the way, or not bother. Half-assing it is just a travesty.

Some bits looked quite a bit better than I think anyone expected, more bits looked as bad as everyone feared.
Pacing and directing was totally off for the first episode, but it doesn't have to be as indicative of the future episodes as the art style is.
It's a damn shame that Berserk clearly doesn't bring in enough money for them to give the license to a competent studio who would stay true to the source material while also maintaining some semblance of a good quality and consistent animation.
I suppose this is our sacrifice in order to get the fucking shit animated.
