Please explain to me why it is that you watch this show?
>>
>>71507728
To keep up with the memes. That's the only reason. Otherwise I'd drop it after season 2.
>>
Is that pic implying the book is better than the show? Both are absolute shit.
>>
>>71507804
I wouldn't say the books are worth reading either. If you're gonna read a book read a fucking good book
>>
>>71507835
I hate this /lit/ faggotry. All this talk about you should only read master works and ancient text poems and essays that have been translated a thousand times. Just fuck off.

invested too much time into it, I've put 600 hours of my life into this shit and I'll be damned if I don't finish no matter how shitty it gets
>>
I dropped it after first season, I just couldn't get into it.
>>
>the show is getting so shit that people are starting to believe the books aren't at fault

I assume you people have never read the books, and if you have and enjoyed it, I assume those are the only books you've read.
>>
>>71508104
What's wrong with Harry Potter? As far as I remember it was pretty good. Granted, I've read it back when I was in school.
>>
Do all the male leaders get killed off one by one and get replaced by women in the books too?
>>
I'm past the point of contemplating whether I should drop it. It's gotten so ridiculous and shameless in its agenda that I'm just enjoying the ride.
Literally so bad it's good. Plus there are still a couple actors I enjoy seeing even if they're systematically being wiped out.
>>
Honestly, I think it's one of the greatest shows of all time. I think the only place where you'll find a truly negative criticism of it is here and we all know that most people here are retarded.
>>
>>71508977
It's very formulaic and Harry himself is the least interesting part of his own story up until book 5 when he starts to be an actual person.

Anything. If it's got character drama and interesting storytelling that lends itself to open ended scrutiny then I'm in, generally. In that way I feel what I know of Montecristo is a lot more emotionally fulfilling than asoiaf (though asoiaf does win out in genre spectacle...)

I like aristocratic and fancy things and medieval stuff. The sort of things Shakespear or Homer written about I suppose but with more character meat like East of Eden or Montecristo would have.

I'm not an especially smart reader but I prefer being confused by an intelligent plot than spoonfed by one with holes. (see GoT)

Who am I parroting? It was required reading for my highschool UIL and it became one of my first recommendations when people are looking for something new to read. CoMC casts a pretty wide net over genres. Intrigue, high seas adventure, revenge, love, prison stories, it's got a little something for everyone.

If you want a less pretentious recommendation because Dumas, the everyman's writer is too hoighty-toighty for you, then... Raymond E. Feist's Shadow of a Dark Queen. I'm not a huge fan of his fantasy works, but that particular one is just the Dirty Dozen adapted into his world. And that premise, like the Seven Samurai, is something that really works being told through any lens.

>you can only enjoy hard literature or you're a pleb
What a boring, narrow fucking view to have. There aren't many masterworks of literature, you know. What, maybe a hundred, two? You're going to burn through those in a lifetime and you're going to be left with nothing but a repeat of those experiences. Why limit yourself like that?

Imagine only being able to enjoy French art-house films or something to that end, all the things you would miss simply because you weren't open minded enough. Do you only listen to Mozart? I can't imagine what it would be like to go through life and being such an uninteresting person.

There's nothing wrong with hard literature -- it's fantastic and should be appreciated for what it is -- but there's nothing wrong with enjoying genre fiction or anything else of its ilk. Broaden your horizons and become a more well-rounded person.

Hmm. How about The Once and Future King by T.H. White? It's one of about a billion Arthurian legend novels, but considered a definitive version by a lot of folks. It essentially covers the entire mythos from start to finish, though there are significant and dramatic tone shifts throughout. The earlier acts focus on Arthur and his relationship with Merlin and are lighthearted enough, with even some tongue-in-cheek fourth wall breaking. By the end, it's exceedingly dark and sombre and you've pretty much forgotten the magic and light tone of the earlier acts. All of the acts are very character driven.

Why is this show filmed with so many bad choices? I believe, there is only so many bad choices you can make before it is intentional.

The TOJ scene.

Since when was Dayne a dark man wearing two blades?

The entire DORNE plotline and it's ridiculous stupidity.

Arya's two season filler plot line.

like, Why do they make these really bad creative decisions?

I hear the budget keeps rising for the show yet they hare absolute bottom of the barrel writers, cinematographers and directors.

Don't you get why that is? Early in the show, colors and light mirror the somewhat ambiance of the world.

It looks grim and grey now because of all the death and treason and bloodshed.

Not to mention that Winter is here.
>>
>>71514485
Winter is white, not grey. The show has very muted colors. The riverlands aren't supposed to look like shitty England. More like central Europe. Maybe they shoot the show during the Fall now instead of Spring/Summer so it all looks boring. But the books are most definitely not like that. The world is described with pretty vivid colors.
>>
>>71510841
I was curious about the first line, so here's an excerpt of said chapter, I'll let readers judge of GRRM's writing themselves:

Asha pushed him away. “Touch me again and I’ll—”

“What?” He drew his dagger. “Undress yourself, girl.”

“Fuck yourself, you beardless boy.”

“I’d sooner fuck you.” One quick slash unlaced her jerkin. Asha reached for her axe, but Qarl dropped his knife and caught her wrist, twisting back her arm until the weapon fell from her fingers. He pushed her back onto Glover’s bed, kissed her hard, and tore off her tunic to let her breasts spill out. When she tried to knee him in the groin, he twisted away and forced her legs apart with his knees. “I’ll have you now.”

“Do it,” she spat, “and I’ll kill you in your sleep.”

She was sopping wet when he entered her. “Damn you,” she said. “Damn you damn you damn you.” He sucked her nipples till she cried out half in pain and half in pleasure. Her cunt became the world. She forgot Moat Cailin and Ramsay Bolton and his little piece of skin, forgot the kingsmoot, forgot her failure, forgot her exile and her enemies and her husband. Only his hands mattered, only his mouth, only his arms around her, his cock inside her. He fucked her till she screamed, and then again until she wept, before he finally spent his seed inside her womb.

Yes, now I can remember that night when I fucked you for so long backwards. It was the dirtiest fucking I ever gave you, darling. My prick was stuck in you for hours, fucking in and out under your upturned rump. I felt your fat sweaty buttocks under my belly and saw your flushed face and mad eyes. At every fuck I gave you your shameless tongue came bursting out through your lips and if a gave you a bigger stronger fuck than usual, fat dirty farts came spluttering out of your backside. You had an arse full of farts that night, darling, and I fucked them out of you, big fat fellows, long windy ones, quick little merry cracks and a lot of tiny little naughty farties ending in a long gush from your hole. It is wonderful to fuck a farting woman when every fuck drives one out of her. I think I would know Nora’s fart anywhere. I think I could pick hers out in a roomful of farting women. It is a rather girlish noise not like the wet windy fart which I imagine fat wives have. It is sudden and dry and dirty like what a bold girl would let off in fun in a school dormitory at night. I hope Nora will let off no end of her farts in my face so that I may know their smell also.

Sometimes too I shall surprise you asleep, lift up your skirts and open your drawers gently, then lie down gently by you and begin to lick lazily round your bush. You will begin to stir uneasily then I will lick the lips of my darling’s cunt. You will begin to groan and grunt and sigh and fart with lust in your sleep. Then I will lick up faster and faster like a ravenous dog until your cunt is a mass of slime and your body wriggling wildly.

Goodnight, my little farting Nora, my dirty little fuckbird! There is one lovely word, darling, you have underlined to make me pull myself off better. Write me more about that and yourself, sweetly, dirtier, dirtier.

And Tolkein based his story around European mythology. Your point? The characters aren't like the show where they are comic heroes/villains. GRRM was autistic enough to write entire histories on the lineages of the lords and all that. Most of the story is really based around history like the Stark vs Lannister conflict. If anything that conflict is only a small part of the story compared to whats happened after. Stannis saving the wall, marching on Winterfell, Volantis attacking Slavers Bay, Barristan overthrowing Danerys husband, Euron sacking the Reach and Oldtown, Mutiny at the Wall etc.

It really sounds like to me that you are only parroting what people say about the books when you haven't read them yourself

"Ser? My lady?" said Podrick. "Is a broken man an outlaw?"

"More or less," Brienne answered.
Septon Meribald disagreed. "More less than more. There are many sorts of outlaws, just as there are many sorts of birds. A sandpiper and a sea eagle both have wings, but they are not the same. The singers love to sing of good men forced to go outside the law to fight some wicked lord, but most outlaws are more like this ravening Hound than they are the lightning lord. They are evil men, driven by greed, soured by malice, despising the gods and caring only for themselves. Broken men are more deserving of our pity, though they may be just as dangerous. Almost all are common-born, simple folk who had never been more than a mile from the house where they were born until the day some lord came round to take them off to war. Poorly shod and poorly clad, they march away beneath his banners, ofttimes with no better arms than a sickle or a sharpened hoe, or a maul they made themselves by lashing a stone to a stick with strips of hide. Brothers march with brothers, sons with fathers, friends with friends. They've heard the songs and stories, so they go off with eager hearts, dreaming of the wonders they will see, of the wealth and glory they will win. War seems a fine adventure, the greatest most of them will ever know.

"Then they get a taste of battle.
>>
>>71517400
"For some, that one taste is enough to break them. Others go on for years, until they lose count of all the battles they have fought in, but even a man who has survived a hundred fights can break in his hundred-and-first. Brothers watch their brothers die, fathers lose their sons, friends see their friends trying to hold their entrails in after they've been gutted by an axe.

"They see the lord who led them there cut down, and some other lord shouts that they are his now. They take a wound, and when that's still half-healed they take another. There is never enough to eat, their shoes fall to pieces from the marching, their clothes are torn and rotting, and half of them are shitting in their breeches from drinking bad water.

"If they want new boots or a warmer cloak or maybe a rusted iron halfhelm, they need to take them from a corpse, and before long they are stealing from the living too, from the smallfolk whose lands they're fighting in, men very like the men they used to be. They slaughter their sheep and steal their chickens, and from there it's just a short step to carrying off their daughters too. And one day they look around and realize all their friends and kin are gone, that they are fighting beside strangers beneath a banner that they hardly recognize. They don't know where they are or how to get back home and the lord they're fighting for does not know their names, yet here he comes, shouting for them to form up, to make a line with their spears and scythes and sharpened hoes, to stand their ground. And the knights come down on them, faceless men clad all in steel, and the iron thunder of their charge seems to fill the world . . .

"And the man breaks.

"He turns and runs, or crawls off afterward over the corpses of the slain, or steals away in the black of night, and he finds someplace to hide. All thought of home is gone by then, and kings and lords and gods mean less to him than a haunch of spoiled meat that will let him live another day, or a skin of bad wine that might drown his fear for a few hours. The broken man lives from day to day, from meal to meal, more beast than man. Lady Brienne is not wrong. In times like these, the traveler must beware of broken men, and fear them . . . but he should pity them as well."

When Meribald was finished a profound silence fell upon their little band. Brienne could hear the wind rustling through a clump of pussywillows, and farther off the faint cry of a loon. She could hear Dog panting softly as he loped along beside the septon and his donkey, tongue lolling from his mouth. The quiet stretched and stretched, until finally she said, "How old were you when they marched you off to war?"

"Why, no older than your boy," Meribald replied. "Too young for such, in truth, but my brothers were all going, and I would not be left behind. Willam said I could be his squire, though Will was no knight, only a potboy armed with a kitchen knife he'd stolen from the inn. He died upon the Stepstones, and never struck a blow. It was fever did for him, and for my brother Robin. Owen died from a mace that split his head apart, and his friend Jon Pox was hanged for rape."

"The War of the Ninepenny Kings?" asked Hyle Hunt.

"So they called it, though I never saw a king, nor earned a penny. It was a war, though. That it was."

Nice. It's too bad the show leaves no room for such writing.

>people actually think ASOIAF books are good

Let me guess, this is the first book you've read since Harry Potter as a kid and you think it's super deep because it has sex and violence?

>Those are the most famous lines in ASOIAF
>No broken men sppech
>No lines from ADWD Theon
>No lines from Jaimes chapters
>None of Stannis' monologues
>No Tower of Joy
>Thinks Gatsby is good
