Alec Trevelyan: We're both orphans, James. But while your parents had the luxury of dying in a climbing accident, mine survived the British betrayal and Stalin's execution squads. My father couldn't let himself or my mother live with the shame. MI6 figured I was too young to remember. And in one of life's little ironies, the son went to work for the government whose betrayal caused the father to kill himself and his wife.

James Bond: Hence Janus. The two-faced Roman god come to life.

Alec Trevelyan: It wasn't God who gave me this face! It was you, setting the timers for three minutes instead of six.

James Bond: Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?

Alec Trevelyan: No. You were supposed to die for me.

Die Another Day wasn't such a bad movie. I love the first dramatic 30 minutes, the car chases were 10/10, the music was 10/10. Sure the invisible car and CGI were cheesy but all in all it is a pretty decent film.
>>
>>71481285
half of the answer to that question is roger spottiswoode
>>
>>71481285
The World is Not Enough is criminally underrated, actually one of the films in the franchise.

Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day on the other hand are crap, but still watchable crap.

How so? He understandably thought Alec was dead after being shot in the head at close range and reset the timers before making his escape. What was he supposed to do? Take on an entire platoon to try and save him?

I also got the distinct impression that the whole thing was staged and that Ourumov and Trevelyan were already in cahoots at that point, so there's really no reason that Bond should feel sorry for him. Alec is a filthy traitor

I feel like Goldeneye is maybe overrated. It had an interesting plot and Alec was a great character, but you also had shit like Xenia and that scene where Bond drives a tank through the streets.
>>
>>71486583
But Xenia and the tank scene are great

They're fun and sexy, but just so over the top that it takes away from it. Too much even for a Bond movie I guess.

Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
You Only Live Twice
>>

One of my top 5 bond films

Tomorrow Never Dies is a close second. Elliot Carver was the most interesting villain.

I love it too, though having played the video game ad infinitum growing up makes me predisposed to it. Whenever I hear that Serra score I feel a wave of nostalgia.

It's a good thing the producers forced him to put in the Bond theme though, it was stupid of him not include it in his original version.

Agreed. You can tell whether someone will like it or hate it considering it's pretty much a remake of Diamonds Are Forever.

I also think throwback movies like this and Spectre aren't such a bad thing since Bond has enough competition with all the other gritty action movies out there.
>>
>>71482575
Tomorrow Never Dies is one of my top five in the franchise. TWINE was my least favorite of Brosnan's and the only part of it I loved was it containing my favorite one-liner.

TND is enjoyable, it just feels like yet another subpar remake of You Only Live Twice. What I love about TWINE is how unique it, and the way it explores James Bond as a character. It's also Brosnan's best performance as 007 by far.

>TWINE was my least favorite of Brosnan's and the only part of it I loved was it containing my favorite one-liner.
It's a great line, but I also love the one he gives Renard as he's dying, after he already killed Elektra.

There's a lot of shameful shit with the west knowingly betraying people to the soviets knowing full well they'll be executed. But since it's commies doing the killing we don't remember, too busy exaggerating nazi death camps to talk about the soviet ones we knowingly shipped people to ourselves.
