I watched this movie last night and really enjoyed it. I don't understand the amount of hate the movie got. I will say I have only watched the extended version and have never seen the theatrical version so maybe the EE is a lot better, I don't know. Either way I had a few small problems but its still one of the best super hero movies I've seen.

I understand what they were going for with the whole "Martha" thing stopping the fight, but they portrayed it very strangely and it came off as dumb. finished watching the movie. really pleased with cinematography, but editing and storyline felt like a mess. for example, i haven't seen the previous man of steel movies, so it took some googling to realize what was even going on during the scene in beginning when superman is fighting zod. there are plenty of other scenes where the viewer just gets dropped into action and there doesn't seem to be any kind of connection with what happened before. also, the bruce wayne & wonder woman and batman visiting lex luthor in prison scenes seem to be in wrong order. it doesn't really make that bruce is like "we must assemble justice league because something bad is coming" but the movie makes it out as he learns that information from luthor after the funeral.
all in all, i'd give it 7/10

superman catching lois is just a way of showing that he had indeed come back from his exile, as the last time we had seen him before then had been on the mountain. its a succinct way of showing the effects of that scene on the mountain while tying it up superman's moment of doubt and exile
most of the complaints about it come from saying why didn't he protect his mother? when the answers are simple
1 he's given no reason to fear for his mother's safety, but lois puts herself in volatile situations because of her job. its completely reasonable for him to then say, "you could've been killed, i was looking out for you" because as we already saw, shit had gone south, and again, superman was only able to save her because she wasn't killed immediately, which she very well could have
2 why didn't he protect martha when she was kidnapped?
at that point, superman was already in his self imposed exile and wouldn't have been able to either keep track of or save martha. later on we all see his shock at being told his mother is in danger, because it completely blindsides him. this alone should put this argument down but it keeps coming up. he saves lois only out of chance. any extra time spent in exile and, you know, that scene ends differently
i actually think they did a good job of being direct and succinct throughout the movie
