It's a really fancy light-reflector. The light comes down a central line above it, and then it, along with all those mirrors spread the light around the giant space where you can't have lots of fires/torches without endangering the books. Looked like you could pull on some chains and redirect the light to a spot where you needed it, as well.
Or the light-reflectors are unconnected and that's just a fancy chandelier meant to look like the thing in the intro.
