It's a blue filter that's trying to simulate a real, perceptual effect. I can point you to scientific papers that simulate the blue shift at low light conditions.

It looks like surreal shit and the sole reason it exists is for financial purposes. That's not even mater for debate it was created for that very purpose since filming at night can become a pain in the ass. learn to cinema before going technical.

I know cinema from the inside. Just because it is done to make day scenes appear like night, the reason the blue filter is added is because it simulates the human perception of dark scenes. Otherwise it wouldn't be used.

You can make scenes darker without adding blue tint. But making it blue conforms with our perception of what dark scenes look like.

>>
>>71304496
It is incorrect though. The perception of darkness is related not only to the amount of light but also with your current adaptation level. My PC monitor has perfect black level during the day but at night, when I'm adapted to much lower luminance, the black level appears grey at best. The stars appear white at night but during the days, they are so dark you can't even see them anymore.

okay I got it, you're fucking retarded. I'm amazed (or puzzled?) that you even managed to somewhat grasp the concept of light rays.
>>
>>71304850
What did I say wrong? It's all true.
>>
>>71304952
Well first and foremost you denied something that was unarguably true which is that darkness is the absence of light, it's the 101.
Secondly you monitor doesn't appear gray, it always was, a certain amount of light leads to "diminishing returns" if I could say so (I'm no physician, bear with the terms), so when you're in a dark environment your monitors shows its "true" colour as there is no outside light to dissolve the one that's emitted behind it.
>>
>>71298807
Nah man watching a cop see everything he believed in slowly collapse with society was awesome. I wish there were more movies about the period right between society being stable and its apocalypse like Mad Max.
>>
>>71304952
I've sat here for 10 minutes trying to figure out how to dress your retardedness. I don't even know where to start.

1) Darkness is the absence of light. Go into a hole in the ground away form any source of light and you won't be able to see. Your yes adjusting to darkness is just your brain picking up tiny sources of light and forming a picture form that. If there's no light, then there is no picture. If you're in a hole, then you won't be able to see your hand in front of your face. I don't care if the fact that your monitor is back-lit makes it appear gray at times, darkness is literally the absence of a light source. This is just a fact one should understand from life experience.

2) The blue filter effect looked horrible and unconvincing. Never have my eyes adjusted to a blinding blue light with and obvious sun hidden behind clouds. Never have stark silhouettes and facial shadows appeared in the dead of night as if it were the day. no matter how much your eyes adjust, night will never, EVER look like that. It just looked cheap.

I don't know how you could argue otherwise.
>>
>>71305203
>you denied something that was unarguably true which is that darkness is the absence of light, it's the 101
I gave you an example of things being dark or bright even though emit the same amount of light.
What you describe is light adaptation, there is less light in the surround so my visual system is more sensitive. This causes the stimulus that appeared black to become greyish.

Now something to blow your mind - color is not a property of things you look at, it's a psychological phenomenon. Whether something is bright, dark, blue or yellow depends more on your visual system and its adaptation than on the reflected wavelengths. Darkness is just a way of your visual system of interpreting the stimulus that's below your current adaptation level's usable range. It has little to do with absolute luminance of stimulus.
>>
>>71305511
>color is a psychological phenomenon
fucking kill yourself.
>>
>>71305495
>1) Darkness is the absence of light. Go into a hole in the ground away form any source of light and you won't be able to see. I don't care if the fact that your monitor is back-lit makes it appear gray at times, darkness is literally the absence of a light source. This is just a fact one should understand from life experience.
Just like a camera, your visual system is limited in the range of light it can see at any moment. When you adapt to a certain luminance, anything too much above that amount is going to appear white and emissive and anything below that range will appear dark, and shifting the adaptation level changes those cutoff levels.

The screenshot you posted is too bright. I've seen the movie graded on a professional grade monitor, it looked much more realistic and convincing.

Basically, I made myself a career of modelling those color vision effects. The amount of evidence for the existence of color adaptation is overwhelming but everyone's vision is slightly different. Have you ever been checked for color blindness?
>>
>>71306654
color blindness is textbook damaged visuals.
>>
>>71306690
True. Have you ever been tested?
>>
>>71306749
Why should I? Are you trying to pretend that if I don't see 2 different shades for the crosses I'd be colorblind?
>>
>>71306799
I'm curious. I worked with a color scientist who found out at 35 that he's color blind. With a 10% rate in male population, it's the first thing we test for before running experiments. Color blind people are the most common explanation for outliers in data.
>>
>>71298795
That pretty much is Mad Max, did you only watch Road Warrior and assume the original was the same?
>>
>>71306912
Well your guy DOES say that the crosses are the same colour, so that was really stupid to ask, sorry.
>>
>>71306969
They have the same spectral power distributions but they are not supposed to appear the same. The left one is supposed to look grey and the right one is supposed to look yellow. That's what the whole article is about.

So, have you ever been tested?

literally the description google provides. why spoil what happens in basically the climax of the movie? in death wish, charles's family gets attacked about 10-20 minutes in. i was kinda expecting something like that, and not Vacation Max and Boring Wife: Driving Cars Kinda Fast Road

>They have the same spectral power distributions but they are not supposed to appear the same
Man are you really genuine? There's no way you're trying to push that shit with a straight face. It's like these pictures that are supposed to appear moving, if you know the trick, it simply doesn't work because your brain processes it properly and then you have to actually concentrate to make it look wrong "as intended".
Me seeing it as it is just makes me an informed person, not a colorblind. I suppose you still have work to do on the subject.

I cared a lot more about his wife and sprog than Charles Bronson's family. I guess to each his own, but I liked the structure of the movie. It allowed for a great cameo by Ted Cruz.
>>
So if The Road Warrior is set three years after the first Mad Max, what the fuck happened to society? It was obviously collapsing in the first one, but what happened in just three years for S & M bandits to start roaming the outback in souped up cars? There were still ice-cream shops and cabaret bars in the first one
>>
>>71307264
I'm just honestly curious. What you're saying contradicts a lot of physiological data we have about the human visual system. You can't on a whim change your color adaptation, it's a process that happens in your cones. I'm seriously curious what could cause this. Have you ever taken an Ishihara or City test?

I think the remains of world governments had a nuclear war in between the movies in a last ditch effort to gather resources. Kind of like in Fallout.

>>71307560
That would be one of them, if you were color blind it would detect it.

I know the brain can do a lot with the signal that comes from the eyes but the visual adaptation happens in the retina, even before the signal reaches the brain. It's not something the brain can override.
