It's cheesy disaster porn. just like the first movie. if you liked the first, you'll probably like this. Problems were mainly the lack of character development, Jeff Goldblum's dad's story was pointless, and the queen alien thing was dumb. The dad's story and queen alien thing could have been cut to develop the characters more. Still fun popcorn flick though.

I agree. The first was better. This was still just a basic popcorn flick. If you like disaster, aliens, humanities last stand type thing, it's good enough. Not horrible, not great. The first one was also not horrible and not great. The set up for the 3rd movie actually kind of makes me a bit excited for a 3rd one.
Is the CG good at least? I'm considering IMAX for fun.

Still the first one actually had characters I remembers. This one they set up a love story with an Asian girl who barely had any lines and barely existed. There was also some nerdy dude who teamed up with an African warlord and I for the life of me have no idea why he was in there.

They used QQ in one scene which made my chinese friends burst out laughing, i work for a chinese company so watched it with them.

The first movie was dogshit but it was enjoyable because all the buildup to the aleins made them seem threatening and interesting
This movie was just scene and after scene, nothing felt connected, nothing felt like it mattered, it just raced through it's shit poorly thoughtout plot to it's mediocre ending
That being said I did enjoy the CGI and dumb shit with the sphere
