Because people assumed it was going to be a Serious Historical Film and instead it was a pop bubblegum take on Marie Antoinette, complete with contemporary music and lots of anachronistic details (Marie Antoinette guzzling champagne and eating pretty 21st century macarons, for one) with more style than substance. The music was part of that so gets picked on.
