When the current wave of demonic possession horror movies goes out of style the way slasher movies did, what will they be replaced by?

nothing.
it's just waiting for the next wave. it comes in waves, m8.
this started with human centipede, after saw wave...
it all really started with the Alien movie.

Hmmm interesting question, so far weve had Found Footage, Demonic possession, internet horror.
I honestly dont know, they will keep doing remakes because theres always some dummy that fall for it but other than that I dont know what could be real horror nowadays.
I think Eagle Eye was on the right track, the boogeyman of this generation has to be digital, masks dont cut it anymore, think about an AI so powerful that can kill people via accidents but you never see it.

I'm personally hoping it'll be Lynchian surreal horror. With heavy atmosphere. I'd even be happy if they just did a neo 80s thing and do a modern interpretation of these old slasher flicks, kinda like indie video games are doing right now with the retro-inspired stuff. Just anything but more boring possesion movies. Or more ghost movies. Or more shit about a cursed doll/book/video whatever. Just make it stop. It's not scary.

I just want old-school gothic stuff to come back. Cemeteries, thunderstorms, abandoned castles, ghosts with rattling chains. But of course that stuff will probably never go over with general audiences

the neo-slasher craze, god willing
Very interesting question and it is true that they come in waves. For example:
50s-Monster Movies
60: Sci-Fi B-Movies
70s: Grindhouse/Exploitation Films
80s: Slasher Films
90s: Found Footage/Teen Horror
00s: Remakes/ "Torture Porn"
10s: Paranormal/Demonic Films
I'm hoping that films such as the Babadook and the VVitch (which I realize get a lot of hate here for some reason) kick off a new wave of art-house horror

I think they'll go for a neo-80s aesthetic like It Follows. The high concepts, themes, etc will vary. They'll have demonic possession, zombies, slashers, monsters, aliens, ghosts, you name it but all with synth-based electronic scores, neon lights, and a decidedly cozier, me down-to-earth, gritty aesthetic.

something like cozy-horror?
I'd dig that
wouldn't it be nice if giallos came back
>>71207169
Uh, well, sure. I suppose so. Whatever can get them feeling like the 80s, the Golden Age of VHS, the format that horror always played best on.

>it all really started with the Alien movie.
'no'
>>71206689
>90s: Found Footage
more like 1999-present
>>71207344
true actually, my bad

Don't forget Zombies starting in mid-00s.
anthology horror movies.

I fucking wish. Way too many horror premises are not good enough for an hour and a half but twenty minutes, a half hour? Sure.
