People seem to forget it has one of the best villains, and that's surprisingly fast-paced and action packed when compared to the other films in the Moore Era. It also might be Ken Adam's best work as set designer.

I'm an apologist for TND but even I know that's bullshit.
The script is mediocre junk and Michelle Yeoh is wasted. Roger Spottiswoode is no Martin Campbell, the action doesn't have anywhere near the punch of Goldeneye. The entire middle of the movie is forgettable outside of the handcuff motorcycle scene and the gaga with the bad guys trying to break into Bond's car.

I have nothing to be sorry for... I've always thought Pierce was the best Bond. I could never really buy that ANY of the chosen actors would have the high level of skills required in combat and in seducing women, but Pierce had the best balance in my opinion. Craig's movies were great, and more "realistic" in some modern ways, but I will never in a million years believe that guy could do as well as he did with women having the face he has.

Well TND has infamous behind-the-scenes strife. Apparently it got so bad and there were so many delays in filming that Anthony Hopkins quit and had to be replaced with Pryce as the main villain.
And you can really tell. The script's rhythms try to emulate classic Bond but from a narrative standpoint it's a jumble. The entire Yeoh plotline screams hasty addition, her connection to the story is tenuous even for a Bond girl. The villain seems to have a magical super-submarine base for no adequately explained reason, it's just this thing in the narrative needed to keep the story moving along. The whole movie is filled with holes like that, as if the writers know what a Bond movie needs to have but can't actually connect the parts in any meaningful way.
I still like the movie though. I have some nostalgia for it considering it was the only Bond movie I had as a kid, so naturally I rewatched it a billion times.

I see where you getting at but I just can't agree. TWINE could of and SHOULD of been the best Brosnan film (the third film is when each bond hits their stride) unfortunately TWINE comes off as both ambitious and extremely flawed in execution. It also suffers from the same mood whiplash DAD has but not as drastic and it's constant throughout the film (Purvis & Wade wrote both films before getting it right with Casino Royale). You could tell that they wanted to make Brosnan's bond more serious towards the end of his tenure but bad writing and directing got in the way and what we got was TWINE dropping the ball after every serious scene and DAD completely shifting tone 30 minutes in.
EON really didn't know what they were doing with bond at that point and Brosnan suffered as a result. Is it really Pierce's fault a campy mess of a film like Die Another Day had to come out months after The Bourne Identity? It's just a shitty way to go out and unfortunately Craig has to deal with the same feeling with Spectre.
