You're right in a sense. Ghostbusters is extremely well-known and loved by a large audience, but it's not been relevant for a long while outside of trying to sell nerds t-shirts or belt buckles. Just like Robocop was.
But when there's a rash of remakes, reboots, re-imaginings, etc., you can't expect the original fans to just not care.
