Seasons 4 & 5 have its moments, but sadly few and far between.

First 3 seasons are gold, but then starts turning to shit in the 4th as it goes from the bad-guy-of-the-week formula that makes it so good to a storyline/plot type of show and the storyline is shit. Don't know about the last season, haven't watched it, but people keep praising it for some reason.

Yeah but Fusco lived right?
>>
>>71132790

1. its set up how it cant find them in season 3 finale

2. he deserved it, while reese always had a death wish

3. the actress got pregnant so they needed something to write her out

4. root essentially became the machine, her wildest dream come true

5. it had already been established the AIs were vulnerable to viruses

6. the machine still had its restrictions in place during those simulations, Root hadn't convinced Harold to take them off

I don't get /tv/'s supposed hatred of stand-alone episodes, many of /tv's most beloved shows are stand-alone. Some work better stand-alone with a thin overarching plot, some work better as as a story. Why can't we have both?

In the case of PoI, the stand-alone formula worked much better for the show. Switching to a story style series is half the reason it was cancelled.

>>
>>71132901
1. Cover identities that would've been broken if Greer wasn't retarded. He's got pictures of thier faces. Samaritan can compute irrelevant numbers so its a matter of just seeing which random people turn up at these numbers often enough and then send human agents after them.
2. Harold did not deserve a happy ending. Played with fire and got his friends and large numbers of randoms killed.
3. Yep thats why Shaw was 'killed' instead of Reese. Still didn't need to bring her back though.
4. Doesn't refute my point?
5. The only virus I remember is an unnamed one Kara sent John and Snow to fetch. The shutdown in season 2 was by code leaked by Harold.

>Fuscos death is how Samaritan tracks down the subway.
>Harold, Reese hunt down Samaritan backups. Samaritan agents shoot Harold.

For me at least, it's less that S4 and S5 attempted to be something bigger and I didn't like it. It's that they attempted to be something bigger while also still maintaining case of the week. Many were great such as the school episode where we learn that Samaritan is attempting to indoctrinate children. But a lot of episodes equally were just forced into the "yeah but Samaritan is actually pulling the strings" and we lose out on a lot of ethical discussion.

In fact the finale basically throws out all ethics. Finch's line of "but im going to make it anyways" is great but shows that S5 basically threw away everything discussed in the first three seasons.

They don't introduce him as child Reese, it's mostly an ongoing implied backstory throughout the series. The episode where Reese goes to drink his sorrows away when Carter died sets up that his soldier dad died doing something heroic.

It might be setup even earlier than that but that's what I remember.
>>
>>71134716
Finch has to throw out all of his ethics to defeat a power-mad open ASI. He didn't get there easily and didn't make the choice willingly. He still didn't fully trust the Machine all the way until the mid-point of S5.

There's some more "loose ends", like that British guy in the Lesbian surgeon episode that I feel was intended to play a role with Samaritan before Greer came into the picture (he was MI6, too) and also why introduce Reese's former boss in one episode just to never hear from him again?

>>
>>71146772
The show dropped in quality when it decided to introduce the Samaritan plot instead of exploring themes like where should we draw the line between protecting people and invading their life, what makes us and the machines different, what personality consists of, and all that other cool stuff that could've been shown instead of more gunfights and two A.I.s fighting.
>>
>>71146863
Most of those were carried on by the Samaritan plot itself and the Machine flat out told you how she developed a personality.
>>
>>71146961
"Flat out telling" isn't the same as exploring, though. And most of it was overshadowed by Samaritan and their struggle for survival.
Those flashbacks about Finch teaching the Machine how to see the difference between good and bad, him explaining his decisions regarding the development (and crippling) the Machine, that was top tier material. I'd rather see more of this than another episode of "Reese and Shaw destroy kneecaps" family show.

Daily reminder that there weren't really any bad or good people (or machines), and that's one of the major points of the show.

Hell, even Harold and co. were the "bad guys" in more than one occasions.

Why the fuck are there a bazillion threads of that literal vomit GoT, and only 1 of this great show.
>>
>>71149730
Oh certainly, and Samaritan had justifications for his actions. When you get down to it Machine vs Samaritan is another version of the security vs privacy (in this case freedom).
>>
>>71149747
Because of "lol CBS shows are for old people"

How did Samaritan get out of the vault? I thought that copy was protected from Ice9 because it was on an air-gapped system but such a barrier works both ways and should have prevented it from escaping as well.

While I agree with you, I don't think you should expect such deep themes from a TV show.

>Protecting people and invading their life
Too controversial and subjective.
>What makes us and the machines different
Maybe, but most likely it's too complicated for a TV show.
>What personality consists of
Nobody knows the answer; too complicated for a TV show

In the end, I think the writers did the best they could, which was still fresh, entertainng, and well-written.

Probably because it didnt feel like it was forced to push an agenda. It evolved pretty naturally over the seasons, it was beautiful, and I fucking hate that shipping shit.

Also theyre both hot so that makes it ok

Relevant side/ISA prequel/spinoff/whatever it's called when?

I want to see more of Shaw and her buddy Cole's operating days and you can always add Hersh and Control to it for more stuff. We saw irrelevant side all the time but not much of relevant side except a few episodes.

According to Caviezel, they improvised the kiss and it wasn't meant to be romantic, but to show how grateful and how much he cared about Carter.

You know what's so surprising about this show? That Sarah Shahi ended up being one of the strongest parts of it. She was ridiculously good this season, which is bizarre because she started her career as a god damn cheerleader for the Cowboys.

Her scene with the Machine, with it telling her how Root felt about her was fucking heartbreaking. The way she had that stony Shaw face, and yet how much her lip was quivering and how devastated her eyes looked. It was amazing.

A FUCKING CHEERLEADER

What I found even more surprising is that she has three kids

you mean they get to plan out their finales? because if think this is 'cut short' you are a idiot. try watching a show that gets cancelled in the middle of its season. all the unresolved plotlines haunt me in my sleep.

you mean dumb international markets

its all about globalism baby, you dont know how much western media can extract from the rest of the masses of the world for pennies on our dollar in their media outlets

easier plots and making it so you dont have to watch it in order (aka not having to know backstory) is easy to subtitle, dub, and appeal to foreign markets

ever wonder why shit is pandering to the lowest denominator nowadays?
