i went ahead and watched sunday's episode even though i haven't been watching any of the rest of the season
i'm really amazed at how this show has become the opposite of what made it interesting at first
it used to be taking fantasy cliches and then filtering them through 15 layers of ruthless pragmatism, where half the fun was in hoping the story would bend over backwards to save the heroes like we're used to, even though we know it's about to take the much more logical (and painful) course
that's why ramsay was so shit; it's doing the opposite, having the story bend over backwards to justify him getting away with pointlessly nasty shit, even though logically any one of half the northern cast should have killed him before now
so now the only thing going for it is traditional fantasy megabattles, with unambiguous scrappy heroes barely saving the day against unambiguously evil overlords. it was a good manifestation of that style, but that style is so rote now (even before you compare it to the early seasons) that I immediately went back to not caring at all when the credits popped up
