Its been a tough few years in all seriousness. My brother and I had a farm together down in Mexico, but we had to sell out when the violence was really bad in northern Mexico. Only now have I been able to buy farmland in the US (I am a blue eyed US citizen before someone says to build wall), I had several landowners break farm leases on me when they found out my family situation. Only now is my family semi-secure with owning the land.
Still, the trees we planted will take years to produce crops, and in the meantime my family depends on the food on the farm to eat. So it stressful. I am a bad crop away from foodstamps, which risks social services trying to take kids away.

Kind of fucks with the whole social structure. Society encouraged monogamy because then almost every man would have a wife, and could start a functional family.
When you have polygamy, some men take more than their fair share. This leaves other men without potential partners and somewhat of outcasts. They have little reason to be productive members of society. The people that leave polygamist communities are most likely to be later born males who cant secure wives. Only real chance they have of wives is waiting until they're old and marrying someone very young.
Happens in the rich Arab countries where the rich have multiple wives, and the poor end up not marrying or having to bring in a foreign bride, with the government having to spend a lot of money to placate the poor.
I get that the traditional structure has already broken though, with hypergamy among women and certain men, so my argument isn't as strong as it would have been 70 years ago.
