I had no problem with the characters but some had no reason to even exist. Aaron Taylor-Johnson does not have the acting skill to be a main character. I don't know if the director told him to act dead-pan but it was seriously mediocre. Elizabeth Olsen's character was set up like she had some significance to the plot with her occupation being a nurse and I thought she might have a secondary plot where she helps citizens in the city or something but nope.
The plot was terrible in that it was just "muh military" and the fight scene at the airport? The first time Godzilla and the Muto meet and then suddenly it just skips to the next day and it's form of transition was with the kid watching it through the television.
