Memes aside Snyder adapts comic book panels really well, he just needs someone to do everything else besides setting up the shot.

No channel has the kind of money required to budget a season of 10-13 episodes, each an hour long, for a TV adaptation of Berserk, especially when Berserk is not a huge money-making property and anime/manga adaptations have yet to be proven has box-office/viewer draws.

Look at much money goes into every episode of The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones and then think about how many times you've seen something on those shows that looked absolutely horrendous.

And those shows are much more simple in their designs of the things they portray on the show. How the fuck are you going to do Berserk when more than half of it includes grotesque monsters? Can you imagine how badly butchered a CG rendering of Zodd would be?

If you were to largely strip away the fantasy elements of Berserk you would be able to make the show, but it wouldn't really be Berserk anymore, would it?

Berserk needs to be a film. It needs the resources that a big film budget can offer (100mil min). The problem with a film adaptation is: Where does the movie start?

An adaptation isn't just following the comic panel by panel. This in my opinion makes for a very dull adaptation.
a good adaptation would not treat the comic as a story board but would take it's essence and use the strengths of the movie medium to present a richer story.
Blade Runner, The Shining, these are successful adaptations because they did not slavishly follow their source material but instead understood what made it unique and interesting.

The violence isn't as much an issue as the rape and sexuality. You could make a hard R rated Berserk with a lot of the violence still intact, but very little of the rape and nudity. At least in America, anyway.

As for the adaptation you could start with the Black Swordsman and then transition the film into flashbacks leading up the Eclipse.

Berserk is awesome. Would be a pretty good show or movie.
However, it would suck like shit because the manga will always be better and they will never have every single thing in it like the manga does.
