Emhyr was always on thin ice. It was a subplot in the books and in the games. The nigger almost got assassinated as the nobles were not pleased with him when he lost the first war. They tried to bump him off with the help of Vilegfortz and Steffan Skellan during the second one but Emhyr was able to put a stop to it. By the time of the third war in the games one fuck up would be all it took for Emhyr to get bumped off. Nilfgaard is a pit of vipers. In fact Emhyr's father was kicked off the throne when he was a kid and he had to fight and overthrow the previous emperor to get it back. There is no denying that Niflgaard dwarfs the North. They can assemble at least 300,000 troops and have far more trade and territory but that's the issue they are so big they cannot divert sufficient enough resources in the war with the North. Though they would have won the second one if it wasn't for a incompetent officer not scouting. Niflgaard it self is in no fear of the North invading as they simply can't. The North will always be pushed behind the Yaruga.
