It is the widely varied interpretation of Sharia which makes it a difficult and dangerous issue to address.
Not everyone agrees on what is permitted and not everyone follows it to the same degree. There is no central authority to whom problematic elements of Sharia law can be addressed.
It can be used to isolate the more vulnerable members of our society. Unlike you, I live in a Muslim community, know many Muslims and actually care about their lives. I don't simply bury my head in the sand and say "oh well, this isn't true Islam and not everyone agrees"
That's exactly what some Muslims want. They don't want the faithful to be informed or try and connect to the wider community. To them, Islam has all the answers. To anyone with half a brain, it quite clearly does not.
