I wish the consequences of violence were consistent on this show; Seasons 1 - 3, they (mostly) were. Seasons 5 & 6 were egregious, but even in Season 4 we start to see them lose the internal consistency. During the Mountain & Viper fight, Oberyn gets his teeth knocked out by the Mountain. Next episode, Jon Snow gets his head bashed into an anvil with nothing but superficial injuries. Why? Because he's the hero and doesn't get hurt until we need him to be hurt for the purposes of the plot. The whole artifice became really obvious in Season 4, the show lost its verisimilitude completely.
Surviving at first is plausible with some luck and DUDE ADRENALINE LAMO.
But that bath in the river is guaranteed infection even without a pierced GI tract.

another thing I noticed but can't really explain is the stakes of violence have changed alot, the first season showed the stark family and some violence and killings. Knives and swords had a real heavy feeling, it felt like a knife at Ned's throat was a huge huge deal and someone pulling a sword would be a big deal in the kingdoms. After something happened I was like HOLY SHIT he actually pulled a knife at Ned's throat, HOLY SHIT the knife actually went through Ned's leg. Then in the second season we had more close ups with Stannis etc and the show felt real and grounded.
Now its like lol dude a whole army attacking a massive pyramid awesome like a whole army of boats firing fireballs at the pyramid. How can people like Arthur dayne and Lamie lannister be legendary fighters whenever some niggas literally have missiles and bombs, its so stupid.
