Goddammit. Finch telling the Machine he doesn't want to break his promise made me tear up.
I hate this show for making me feel.
>>
>>70853533
I disagree, his was fitting.
Jeff or whatever his name is should be killed by Shaw, but that's probably not gonna happen.
>>
>>70856764
I dunno. Up until a certain point you really could believe Samaritan and his agents were trying to help humanity, just in their own way that leaves no room for protest and free will. That was especially evident in early episodes after Samaritan was introduced — we were showed it can drastically lower crime rates, help people in need, etc.
Greer's death paints him as a zealot incapable of exercising free will or having a survival instinct, and Samaritan — as a ruthless dictator who doesn't care even about his most faithful minions.
They could've killed Finch in any other way.
>>
>>70856852
Because that's exactly what samaritan is - an algorithm with a target function (an end) and disregard for means.
>>
>>70856852
Could've tried to kill Finch, rather, considering he escaped. But you get my point. A bullet to the head would've been faster than sucking the oxygen out, and there was literally no reason to do it that way except to show Greer's madness and readiness to die for no purpose whatsoever.

>>70856889
He has desires and demands, and a primitive personality. He's no more of an algorithm than the Machine is.
>>
>>70856917
What are Samaritan's desires?
>>
>>70856933
To have another A.I. with him, as Greer told us in this episode. Supposedly, Samaritan wants a partner.
>>
>>70856917
a "bit" convoluted, but the purpose of the asphyxiation mightve been for nobody to be able to hear the password.
>>
>>70856977
Oh yeah, forgot about that.
Kind of stands in contrast as to how I view it given previous episodes and seasons.
The main problem I have with it is this: there is no clear end goal. Unless it either wants to enslave all of humanity or fuck off to outer space, there is no logical reason for all its actions.
It was created for mass surveillance, right? That was the original purpose. I can't see a clear path from that to "having desires like a human being". It's fairy tales for me.
I miss when it was all simple without this magic AI personality hogwash.
>>
>>70857148
Greer said the room was soundproof. He or one of his lackeys could've just closed the door and shot Finch.
It just really doesn't make any sense to me from a logical standpoint. If Root's death I can kind of understand (she panicked and swiveled to the wrong side), this just feels forced.

>>70857197
We can assume that it got human-like personality from Arthur when he created it. If if was anything like the Machine's development, he probably had to teach it the basics. Although as far as I remember, we weren't told when exactly the development was shut down.

As for the end goal, yeah, same. I liked the way they made the Machine into an actual being but I would've liked it better without the Samaritan. Or at least without this supposed "battle between the two gods". Simple "the end justifies the means vs. all lives matter" clash in views would've sufficed.
>>
>>70857280
>We can assume that it got human-like personality from Arthur when he created it.
Arthur never taught it anything. Samaritan lived for mere seconds (or shorter?) before it shut down due to lack of processing power. Arthur made a backup at that point.
>>
>>70857280
I've got a background in machine learning, so it irritates the fuck out of me.
>I would've liked it better without the Samaritan
Same, desu.
It would be better if they explored the philosophical side - the origins of soul and conscience, that kind of shit. It had lots of potential to present something very nice, but it went the predictable route instead, sadly.
>We can assume that it got human-like personality from Arthur when he created it. If if was anything like the Machine's development, he probably had to teach it the basics
I still view that just as compiling a giant database for what is essentially an expert system.

>>

>>70857412
Then I don't know. Finch talks about Greer "corrupting" it, but how can you corrupt an algorithm that has no personality? Unless Greer taught it that lives don't matter in the grand scheme of things, just like Finch taught his Machine that everybody matters. I don't see how he would have time to do it, though. Maybe he used a break when the team had to go undercover with false identities.
>>
>>70857280
>but I would've liked it better without the Samaritan
I liked it better when they were called Colossus and Guardian.

I miss those days bros ;_;
>>
>>70857654
Me too...
>tfw you'll never hope for Root and Shaw to get together again
>>
On the subject of end goals, I just now understood I have no idea what Samaritan is trying to accomplish anymore. It's supposed to "protect humanity", isn't it? But it doesn't do that, even though it clearly can (crime rate manipulation, health care, etc.). So what is it, "humans are bad code and need to be eradicated/controlled"? Somebody had to teach it that, and unless Greer is a complete lunatic, I doubt it was him. Although I'm not denying this possibility.
Another version is that after Samaritan was exposed to all the data in the world unsupervised, it went bonkers, just like the Machine did when she was rebooted and thought the team were the bad guys because they killed people.

>>70857672
>tfw Root was killed after finishing her redemption arc, finally beginning to see hope in humanity and reconciling with Shaw

Oh for the love of....Looks like someone wasn't paying attention.

Greer clearly stated three things that Samaritan wanted to do:

He did, some 7000 times.
>>
>>70860396
>Shaw had to kill herself for 7000+ times to not expose Root and the rest of the team to Samaritan
>Root dies shortly after they reunite
Right in the feels.

>>70860248
Probably this, considering there is a leak with timestamps.

>He did, some 7000 times.
No, he didn't.

>>
>>70859725

If they actually do it I'll lose my fucking shit.

>>
>>70866292
You're not even lying.
I didn't plan to binge it last February. Seen 4 seasons in a week.
>>
>>70866450
its a lot of feels but worth it if you want to catch up to series finale
>>
>started s1, watched 2 episodes with gf
>she fucking loves it, says it's super interesting
>it's basically fringe/lost level of TV, except with less sci-fi and is almost "buddy cop"

does it ACTUALLY get good? lost was great until i realized they were going absolutely nowhere with the story and it just ended in a million unanswered questions. fringe ended alright, but still lots of unanswered questions.
>>
>>70867022
yeah its not garbage
>>
this is show good or people just want to shitpost? each season is like 20+ episodes, i don't know if i can spend that much time watching it.
>>
>>70867662
its like 40min an episode you can power through
>>
>>70867662
It's got a fair share of bad episodes each season. But over all it's a good show. It starts getting really good at Season 3. And this being it's last season does feel like a good time to end the show and not drag it out any longer.
>>
sexy root is the best waifu
>>
>>70867812
yeah we don't want another breaking bad where it should have ended 2-3 seasons before it actually did
>>
>>70868012
I think a full season would have been a more fitting end, but I guess we should be thankful that we got a closing season at all.
>>
>>70868146
true but i guess thats network television politics

I understand the showrunners want to tell their story but this is summing up to be a pretty terrible ending; the Machine deserves such a better fate than what Harold forced on her, even though we see her supporting him and helping him. If she was totally fine with dying she'd have never have added that SOS call in 'Deus Ex Machina'. It just makes the whole death and rebirth thing seem rather pointless just to kill her for the 44th and final time.
>>
What if the leaks are fake? I want to believe.
>>70869498
>44th
>>
>>70869752
leak for this ep(5x12) was real though, I highly doubt the other one being fake
>>
>>70869812
It would be glorious if they leaked it themselves and tricked us. They don't care about the ratings anymore.
>>
>>70869752
>What if the leaks are fake? I want to believe.

If the last episode leak was fake that'd be great, but I think we are in for the ending from that based on what people have said. I haven't read the transcripts myself.

>pic related to 44th

I want to believe too.

Hey, even with spoiler tags on, keep the actual spoiler shit out of this thread. If you gotta discuss spoilers, go to another thread.

Are you serious?

How would a person know what only an ASI can figure out.

Christ on a billboard. I'll bet you're one of those types that thinks an ASI must experience the same cognitive processes as a human being, too.
>>
>>70872538
Hey, I'm just talking about what it looked like in the trailer. I'm just as clueless as everyone else.

Yes, ma'am. I'll seal the thread.

I wonder how the hell Samaritan found the subway.

Although I guess since both AIs are being destroyed, Machine isn't in the capacity to make it a blind spot to Samaritan anymore. I guess we'll find out in a week.
