The wildfire in season 2 was freshly made by (probably) another pyromancer than the one serving the mad king, it was ordered by Cersei, but Tyrion had a better plan for its practical use.
Cersei said to dr. Frankenstein she'd heard a rumor that there were still wildfire from the madman's time hidden underneath KL and wanted it checked out. And tada, Frankenstein found it.
Cersei will use it to burn down the sept in episode 10.
