The novella makes it pretty clear that he was a COMPLETELY fucked up individual, who was planning to reveal, at that meeting he was going to, that he'd completely destroyed the fund he was managing, in a glorious act of self-destruction that would annihilate everything he'd worked toward his entire life, a metaphorical suicide that might just lead to a real one shortly thereafter.
It's a shame we couldn't get more of his internal dialogue in the miniseries.
The thing I hate about this movie is that I'm pretty sure it inspired the little shits at the end of Castlevania DoS.
