Objectively speaking, what's the best way to dodge the No Singles Policy?
>>
Don't go alone.

pink shoes? Who the fuck dressed this bitch?
>>

I buy two tickets at the front desk saying I'm waiting for a friend and then just tell the ticket-taker leading to the theater hall that my friend is already inside (make sure they don't see your other ticket, they'll think you're up to something). Make sure to say 'friend', 'girlfriend' makes them eye you up and down and immediately get suspicious. Usually once you get past the front desk, the ticket-takers just assume you're good and only usually go out of their way to catch stragglers if they REALLY care about doing their jobs.

It costs twice as much to pull off, but I figure it evens out because most of my other schemes result in failure with no refund anyway.

this works for me: just mime like you're talking to your friend who is in line (obviously it has to be somewhat crowded) So you get up to box office and say, 'yeah two for um..' turn to the line 'oh you're gonna get your own? Ok.' 'Sorry, make that one for _____' The idiot behind the glass falls for it every time pretty much
>>
>>70654302
by not perpetuating this meme
>>
not that i want to perpetuate this meme and all but seriously you can't find a single friend or family member to go to a theater with you?
>>
>>70656199
Some of us don't really have friends and arent close to family. Especially as we get older. Don't rub it in, ok?
>>
>>70654342
Should have gone with black shoes for sure.
>>
>>70656199
The only person I can go with is my brother and he ALWAYS, WITHOUT FAIL has to go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie, then he calls me from outside saying he wants to go home because he doesn't wanna buy another ticket. For context, my cinema has "burner tickets" where they stamp your ticket and the left half's ink fades after 15 minutes. If you have a faded ticket, they won't let you back in or stamp it again and you have to buy another, no exceptions.
>>
>>70656540
wow, where do you live man? thats kind of shitty.

where i'm at they just check tickets at the building entrance, then they have bathrooms inside.

honestly you could probably sneak into another movie afterwards here.
>>
>>70656540

I go to the movies by myself to convince my mother that I have friends

Nothing beats some quality time out and about with your real doll.
>>
>>70656830
Same, at this point she's starting to catch on as every time she drops me off she's like 'uh where are your friends' 'inside already.' Picks me up, 'where are your friends?' 'just left.' I think it's sort of an unspoken understanding. fuck

>No singles policy

The really stupid part about this whole thing is that there are people who believe you.

This meme needs to die.
>>
I have a really easy and simple solution to this whole problem

>Purchase ticket
>Enter theater
>Buy whatever concessions I want. Or none, whatevs.
>Sit down in theater.
>Watch movie

Wow, that was fucking hard.

No Singles Policy is like the cake from the video game Portal.
>>
>>70654302
Genuine question: is this a new meme or do cinemas in the US actually do this? I'm not sure if I'm being trolled or not anymore.
>>
>>70656540

Pissing bottles.
>>
>>70654302

I just went to the movies alone today without any problems. I have a simple two step solution to guarantee a successful solo movie outing.
>>
So, unrelated, but it's in the same vein as the no singles policy meme...but can someone confirm if americans are memeing when they say they're not allowed to bring food into a cinema? like apparently they need to sneak it through? i've never heard anyone confirm this isn't a meme
>>
>>70656851

Could you imagine how hideous you have to be when your perfect woman is a 40 y/o lifelong white trash smoker and you honestly can't even find a divorcee or something to fuck.

Jesus.
>>
>>70658844
It's a thing. Most theaters have a "no outside food or drink" policy because they make the majority of their money from concessions. That doesn't mean it isn't piss easy to sneak stuff in if you have a coat or a friend/date who has a purse.
>>
>>70658889
>Most theaters have a "no outside food or drink" policy

danm. the image that's slowly building in my head about american movie theatres is a very bleak, oppressive one.
>>
>>70658844
Some cinemas will frisk you to check you for contraband.
>>
>>70658915
Why, exactly? That's basically the only rule besides paying for a ticket and not recording/not being loud during a movie.

Same thing really.

Maybe the cultures different, but here, gathering some snacks, candies and drink from the nearby super market is all part of the theatre experience. I can't imagine having to shell out like, $7 for a drink, and $10 for some popcorn.

>gathering some snacks, candies and drink from the nearby super market is all part of the theatre experience.

It is in America, too, but we have the added excitement of sneaking it in.
>>
>>70659082
If they find out that you have food you have to leave without a refund or throw the food away.
>>
>>70659195
>>70659206

Doesn't sound very exciting. Seems annoying, like you sit down and after having to sneakily open your food, end up getting kicked out.

How do theatres get away with that, anyway? Seems weird.
>>
>>70658635

It used to be a meme, but ever since the Batman shooting just about every theater in the US has a no singles policy to reduce the risk of a violent incident. The types of people to have outbursts of violence or go shooting up a theater are a lot less likely to go out with friends, so making sure people go in pairs is seen as a useful deterrent. In some states it's becoming law for all theaters to have the policy because of how effective it's been, but for now it's at the theaters' discretion and simply very common.
>>
>>70654302
Why would someone humiliate himself this way?
>>
>>70659239
>like you sit down and after having to sneakily open your food, end up getting kicked out.

No, they don't have people inside the screening rooms or anything. You just have to make it past the ticket takers.

>How do theatres get away with that, anyway?

Because they're private establishments that have the right to deny people service for any reason as long as it's not explicitly racial/religious/disability discrimination, so if they say that no one is allowed to have outside food or drinks in the building they're well within their rights to enforce that by denying your business.
>>
>>70659330
Wouldn't be something I put up with desu. I'm glad it isn't a thing in my country, sounds like it really dampens the movie theater experience.

The only problem of going alone to movies is that you don't have anyone to discuss it afterwards.

It kind of is, you said you wouldn't put up with it. It's the basic freedom of business owners to run their business as they please, and that's ultimately what you're decrying.

>>70659270

The Batman shooting was to movie theaters as 9/11 was to airport security.

I don't agree with a lot of things, doesn't mean I hate freedom.

Luckily it doesn't happen around here, so I don't need to worry about it.

Went up to Canada to visit family and they didn't even have a no singles policy. I went to like 7 movies the week I was there, but the tickets were like 37 dollars each so I spent all my spending money and didn't really get to see Canada.

What's the etiquette for making eye contact in the showers? Is it considered weird and sexual if you make eye contact or is it rude if you ignore them? I just moved and my local cinema doesn't have cubicles.

Always tricky and delicate. I tend to glance once with a nod and wrap up quickly. The lobster rolls at my cinema tend to sell out quick, so I like to beat the post-shower crowd.

I sit in my theater's Designated Singles Area. It's basically a box made of bulletproof glass.
