Bordering between disappointing and decent.
Maybe having been invested in the Warcraft franchise since WC2 raised my expectations, but there were just so many things wrong or that could've been done better.
1) The storyboard. The scenes don't seem to have been planned out properly. There were so many unnecessary scenes that didn't add to the story or characters. They should have been taken out to extend important scenes or replaced entirely. They should have attempted to introduce the characters, the kingdoms/geography of Azeroth, the hierarchies of the factions, or even just explored more of Stormwind. Not once in the movie do they really make clear who exactly Lothar is except that his sister is the king's wife. As a result of all the short, unnecessary scenes the movie almost has a manic feel, one scene cuts to another seemingly unrelated one abruptly. They waste too much time on scenes that could be achieved with a much simpler portrayal. For example, they have one whole scene just to show Llane's wife handing a dagger to Garona to 'show trust', when it could have been achieved without words, in the span of a second with Lothar giving Garona a weapon (which they pretty much did again with the spear). It adds nothing to the movie, even with the eventual significance of the dagger itself. There are like a hundred more examples of that in the movie.
2) The dialogue. The worst dialogue I've heard in a long time. Added nothing to the already short scenes, no exposition whatsoever, made the scenes seem to lack any sort of significance and seem mundane. Probably a result of the first point though.
3) The story. It was an odd time period for them to try to set the story and leaves the ending at an unsatisfying place. The movie didn't take place early enough to explore the motivation of the orcish horde, why they knew of Azeroth, why they wanted to go there, who Gul'dan was working for etc. And yet the movie didn't take place late enough to show the

Siege of Stormwind, the Alliance or any of the good stuff. Not to mention the most EGREGIOUS thing, which was all the fucking RETCONNING. I am willing to overlook the MUH NOBLE SAVAGES point on the account the movie would be entirely one-dimensional otherwise, but1) Having a forced romance between Lothar and Garona 2) Having Garona kill Llane because he asked her to and not because she was possessed by Medivh as they confronted him in Karazhan. I feel like this movie would have been better if it were a proper 'Alliance' movie, just taking place in setpieces of the human and dwarven kingdom and told entirely in the human perspective. I understand half their playerbase plays Horde, but you need to set up the world before you start tearing it down, and much of the story begins with the human kingdoms initially anyway. The bulk of the movie should have been set just in Stormwind, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood and Elwynn. It should have tried to give a sense of the city, the seedier old town with pickpockets etc, the harbour, cathedral square etc and should have ended perhaps with the siege of Stormwind. Don't even try to explain the orcs. Then in the second movie, take the perspective from the orc side.

I hoped that the human would excel the orcs in tactics (like the shielding thing to stop the wolf), but them again it would be too much to ask for strategy in a series that came out as a RTS game.

That was actually a really cool moment. That + humans using the guns were the best parts of the action sequences.
The final 1v1 felt like a bit of a letdown though. They built him up wanting revenge for his son, then he just killed the main orc warrior, apparently hugely improved with Fel by Gul'dan, in seconds with ease

I didn't even know what this was until this movie.
I've played WC1, WC2, WC3 and WoW until WotLK and there wasn't anything like that in any of those games.
Is one of those things that they added in those awful Warcraft books they do now.
Unless they've retconned it too, the war with the Draenei (the blue goats of the beginning) was pretty much a massacre, they coexisted for years until they chimped out on fel energy and started masss rapemurdering them, no honor or anything.

He was corrupted by Sargeras leader of the burning legion (they aim to destroy everything cause everything is just pointless anyway lol)
The burning legion fooled the orcs to wipe out the Draenei (not entirely) even though they had lived peacefully on the same planet for thousand of years.
Since Azeroth is such an orderly place The burning legion want to wipe it out next so they use the horde again for their plans
