Kiwis seem by far the softest of all the colonists our race has ever produced (they're not violent criminals like the Aussies or religious fanatics like the Americans). Maori on the other hand, seem to be the most hardcore of all the native races whose lands they've settled.
So basically, what I'm asking is: why haven't the Maori booted the shit out of all the Pakeha like the Native Americans would do to the Yanks or the Irish would do Northern Irish settlers?

I can't remember the specifics, but that treaty has 2 versions, one in English and the other in Maori and the Maori treaty actually reads a bit differently to the English version and off the top of my head it was implied that the English would be living alongside the Maori as opposed to actually running the place but by the time the Maori realised, it was too late.

There are Maori gangs, but we generally have far better relations with Maori than say Australia does with the Abos, or America does with the native Americans.
I'm guessing the reason why they get along well is for the exact same reason you pointed out: we weren't as hardcore, so the Maori were not as antagonised. I mean, we did have Land Wars but they were pretty much just skirmishes.

I think that perhaps more affirmative action programs could be put in place to help raise the percentage up a bit for the Maori. They've always worked in the past and a society should do all it can to help its indigenous people.
