On the subject of Ice Cube's son complaining about there being too many movies and shows about black people suffering, let's talk about accomplished black people who should get biopics/series.
Hard mode: no jazz/blues/soul musicians
Pic related is Joseph Bologne, le Chevalier de Saint Georges. His father was a slaveowner in Guadeloupe, and his mother one of his father's slaves. He was sent to France to be educated, during the midst of the French revolution, where he became a renowned duelist and classical composer, and nicknamed "Le Mozart Noir" (the black Mozart). He later simultaneously led a French Foreign Legion and an orchestra during the Haitian revolution.
Biopic of based Anthony Johnson when?

>there being too many movies and shows about black people suffering
What the fuck kind of dishonest bullshit is this?
>>70533842
>Haitian revolution
Weren't they gonna make something, movie or show about

>>70533842
>no musicians
>posts classical compposer
Oh u
Also why is this African wearing a white-face? This is racist, I'm triggered.

The obvious choice

>>70535823
Not a black person.
I'm hoping Boyega acts in a Coltrane biopic before he gets too old like Denzel W. did.
>>70535762
Chronicles of riddick was a great movie and game series.
>>70535598
I believe Danny Glover was trying to get one off the ground as its director, yeah. For some reason I remember something about Don Cheadle being the lead but I can't corroborate it.

>Not a black person
>>70536059
>if you've got a drop of coloured blood you're black, unless you're Alexandre Dumas
Make a movie about this guy I'm sure black people will love it
>>70536276
I say 'Sieg Heil' to that
>>70536167
using drawrings as evidence
>>70536276
If you've got a drop of coloured blood you're definitely not white, but you aren't black
>>70536276
Only americans use that stupid one drop criteria.
>>70536066
St. John was black huh?
>>70536353
Here's a photo of his son. Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was well known to be of african descent. You know, because the French keep records on that sort of shit.
>>70536519
Doesn't look black to me. Doubt his father was black either. Swarthy maybe, like a Spaniard or something.
You seem really invested in this, like a Black Israelite, so hey, if you want to call these people who are obviously not african in phenotype "black," based on drawrings and """photographs""" go right ahead.
>>70533842
Why would we do that when we can just pick successful white people and make them black in the movies?
>>70536658
Lol doesn't look black to you? Well damn, I have some black friends that look exactly like that motherfucker. I guess I'll go tell them that they aren't black now.
Look, the paintings show his father to be black. French historical records say he's black and say that his mother was an African slave. All you've got is denying the shit without anything to back it up.
>>70534100
The recent slew of Oscar-bait movies with black characters all have stories where they're treated horribly, because it's oscar-bait.
Compare Twelve Years a Slave to Amistad.
>>70536861
Because that wouldn't be the truth.
People are against Alexandre Dumas being Afro-French?
>>70537040
Most of African relations with western culture has been of black getting shat upon. At least in the US. I can't think of a historically accurate story about blacks (in the US, at least) that wouldn't have at least some negative bullshit.
>>70536276
>hah, those stupid conservatard KKK trailer trash nazis have this one-drop rule, it's so silly and stupid
>proceeds to use it when convenient, to stick it to the white man
what's it gonna be
>>70537223
Thomas-Alexandre Dumas. I don't think anyone seriously denies that he's black. Anyone that would must be mentally deficient.
>>70537292
Certainly, but I'm pretty sure his point is that it focuses too much on the suffering part, due to the audience expecting suffering. Twelve Years a Slave was suffering-porn. Lots of recent black movies have had too much focus on suffering, rather than overcoming. Amistad on the other hand was a tale of triumph, without as much focus on the suffering except for the scenes showing what happened on the ship, and that was included as an argument from one of the characters in the court.
>>70537223
WE WUZ MUZKATEERS
can black people just fuck off and stop being a thing already?
>>70537414
I haven't seen any solid evidence that this guy is black.
>>70533842
That's a great movie as well, about accomplished black people.
>>70537718
>>70533842
Since people have already mentioned Dumas, how about Pushkin's great-grandfather
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abram_Petrovich_Gannibal
>>70537650
By that measure, Is there any solid evidence that George Washington or Benjamin Franklin were white? How about Thomas Jefferson? Any historical figure before film was invented?
That's the shit destination that your train of logic takes things to.
>>70537436
I never saw either movie. Tho I understand what you mean. Like The Passion of Christ was definitely suffering porn.
>Hard mode: no jazz/blues/soul musicians
why? that's actually more interesting than "black guy does conventional white nobleman things in an era where that was unusual". i'd rather see a movie about an interesting or innovative jazz musician than some mediocre classical composer who is only ever mentioned today for being black.
King Ghezo
He was a stylish man.
>>70536984
Your friends aren't black either.
>>70533842
>the black Mozart
But Mozart was black
>>70539280
Gawdammit bobbeh! I done told you a thousand times, Joseph is WHITE!
>>70538976
I mostly just added that caveat because there've been quite a few 20th century black musician biopics recently (the ones on Nina Simone and Miles Davis come to mind) and something a bit different would be better IMO.
>>70533842
hard mode should actually be "no westernised blacks," since they instantly get more points for 'muh oppression,' but there aren't any that are successful
>>70541677
I want a movie on Ibn Battuta and his trade journeys
>>70537058
Racist. I bet you're voting for Trump, too.
