Theres a total of 3 vampires in the books. One is the one that turns cassidy. All that's known about it is cassidy calls it a "hag". It jumps out of the water and bites Cass and that's it. The other one is a guy that got bit 10 years prior to meeting cassidy. He's a poncy goth shit that learned about being a vampire from modern media. He wears a cloak and has red contacts. He drinks blood because he thinks he has to, which they do have to, but it doesn't have to be human. He kills people for no reason and that doesn't sit well with cassidy, so cassidy kills him pretty much because he lied to him about killing people.
Pretty much all vampire lore, besides the sunlight, is bullshit in the preacher universe. Nothing can kill him. He's even completely decapitated. He deals with this by having tulip sew his head back on.

Man, I've read a bit of the comics and I still like the show.
Adaptations will almost diverge from the source material to varying degrees of frustration and I've grown to accept that. I try not to let it hinder my ability to enjoy a good TV show anymore. Most of the changes made in this show seem fine to me.
The casting is fine too. Joe Gilgun plays Cassidy spot on. Tulip is certainly depart from comic book counterpart, but as it stands right now I think she's pretty cool character. Toning down Arseface's scars seems like it was done just to make him bearable to look at and actually have the audience focus on the things he says rather than just looking at out how ugly he is. Jesse seems fine too. Could do with a little more emotion him, but that's about it for me. Literally everyone is ugly in comics written by Garth Ennis, so I understand that the show would want to cast someone more attractive.
Preacher is my favorite comic of all time and I'm fine with the changes, t b h.
They do need to stop trying so hard to capture the Cohen aesthetic, though.
I thought the second episode was a lot better than the first. Jessie was a little less of a bore, the Arseface kid's prosthetics were a fair bit better, but Cassidy continues to be the best part.

well,he takes his place but only in a literal way. sitting on the throne makes him invulnerable to anything, and that way he can make sure nothing or nobody tries to become a new god. which he isn't. effectively there's no god at the end of the story, and the saint is only there to keep it that way.

Nice episode. kicking off the Saint backstory after I heard they cut him out of the show completely was a nice surprise. Cassidy being his usual self and him bonding with Jesse. Sorta, kinda explaining that the two guys after IT aren't really what people thought they were. And Jesse learning to control The Word. Overall good and entertaining stuff.

honestly i think the producers/directors/talent involved in an adaptation of a work, if they really have respect for the original, have a duty to make significant changes all over the place, if only to result in a huge bitching campaign among the fandom and a large sentiment that it "doesn't do justice". because if you really like the original that much, you're going to want more people to read it, and you're going to want to create something that brings more attention to the original as much as possible. right? could that be what they're going for? i think they're on the right track if so
