>Cyberdelia was built from scratch in an abandoned indoor swimming pool on the outskirts of London, with the center of the club in the depths of what was the pool. Producer Ralph Winter notes, ‘We never knew why, but the pool was designated an historic landmark, so great care had to be taken not to damage anything and to return it to its original state.’”

>According to the director, Cyberdelia was imagined as a place where hackers could meet up, hang out, exchange information, brag about hacks, and best each other in video games. It has a multi-leveled layout with ramps for those on roller blades and stairs for all the lamers on foot.

What an outstanding, joyous, playful, just plain fun movie. What beautiful atmosphere rewarded with awesome chemistry between characters.

What a slice of time.
>>
>>70487412
Agreed, it's a 10/10 film for me, and encapsulates the nineties better than any other film IMO
>>
>>70486967
sounds better than the fucking coffee shops and juice bars kids hang out nowadays. hell, sounds better than any bar
>>
>>70487609
Well, it encapsulates one aspect of the nineties. I wonder how much of it can be felt by youth of today, I was a teenager in the mid-90s, copied a ton of floppies, so it perhaps rings more bells with me.
>>
>>70487852
My experience, in dealing with my younger brother and his friends, is that as technology has gotten more convenient, they're actually becoming less proficient in stuff like that. There's just no need to, when you can get something good enough with significantly less effort. Why torrent when you can stream? and so on.
>>
>>70487852
I was only a small child when it was released, didn't discover the film until over 10 years after it came out. Even though I don't really remember that period in time, watching Hackers makes me feel fiercely nostalgic for it. Such a comfy fucking movie
>>
>>70487852
Im 21 born '95. When I think of movies that encapsulates the 90's I think of this and Kids. Slacker too I guess. These movies make it very easy to imagine what my life would be like had I been born 10 years earlier.

Those are pretty good examples, though I did not watch Slacker. Hell, I even remember the Internet without cultural marxism. Another interesting aspect of Hackers is the juxtaposition between subculture and the (non existing) concept of social networks as we have them today, emphasized through "the man" (represented by Bunk receiving a flood of answers to ad posted under his real name).

I bought mine from my stepdad for $40, since then I've been collecting LDs, I love 90's tech. So far I've amassed about 30 or so.

I hate VHS though, they're unwatchable now IMO. Even nostalgia can't overcome that shitty quality along with pan-and-scan.

Pan and scan really ruins a lot of flicks but if youre collecting anything that wasnt released in theaters it doesn't matter that much. I've got around 200 tapes but I'd say only 20 of them were released in theaters in the first place and i dont think any of them are really ruined by pan and scan. The worst I have personally is maybe Akira but anime tapes are rad/rare anyway so whatever

I had rollerblades. expensive ones.
they were fun if you knew what you were doing.

I used to be be able to haul ass going backwards and shit. I used to get called a fruitboarder and faggot though.

rollerblading was never cool, besides beach babes riding them in cali.

If I had a do-over, I definitely would have been a skateboarder. Bug I tried to pull off a simple ollie on my friends skateboard, and couldnt fucking do it, so i gave up.

/v/ here. Was this movie the inspiration for Jet Set Radio? No one ever talks about the similarities. I stumbled on the movie one day. Somewhere in the middle. And these rebellious youths are rollerblading, evading the police and acting like vandals.

It was such an "oh shit!" moment, as a fan of the game.

Here's a little sample of the game. It was a 2 game series that came out in the late 90s/early 00s. Just replace hacking with grafitti, and it's essentially the same concept.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuuMefYN23c

As a fan of the game, I feel like this Hackers should have been talked about as being inspiration for the games. But no one ever brings it up. I don't know, maybe it's just a massive coincidence.
