Advent Children was phenomenal if you were who the movie was intended for. The opening vignette says something to the effect of it was written specifically for people who loved the game. Your average viewer or casual player probably liked it okay enough for the visuals, but nothing else besides. Fans of the game were enchanted though.

Spirits Within is sort of the reverse. Fans of the game series didn't really care much for it because it really had nothing to do with any of the hallmarks of the series. Nothing about it was Final Fantasy except the name. So, appreciate the visuals, but not much else.

Both of them are great. But Advent Children takes the cake as the best animated action move ever made. It definitely reigns supreme in this category. Only upcoming movie I can think of that MIGHT seize the throne from it is Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive.
