it was easily the most intelligent ST imo. I watched DS9 before TNG, and honestly it was shit in comparison.
>>
>>70439237
It's more consistently good, I dunno about better or worse overall. I generally liked DS9 more though until it ruined Dukat and started focusing more on the entirely dull prophet shit.

In the entirety of that show's seven seasons, I could not and did not give a single fuck about the Bajorans or their gods. The worst I could say about TNG is that it takes a season and a half of complete garbage to find its footing, but DS9 had a meh start too, so that's not really as bad as it sounds.
>>
>>70439434
same can be said for almost every series with seldom exceptions. i cant recall any show i've watched that didn't take a season or two to get the direction right.

I hate Star Wars and love DS9, the reason it's my favorite Trek is because it's the only series with character development and where actions actually have consequences. Also there are so many GOAT episodes, like In the Pale Moonlight, Duet, Necessary Evil, Trials and Tribble-ations, etc.

Voyager wasn't all bad, the main problem with it was that it was inconsistent. You'd have some episodes that were on par with TNG and then something like Threshold would pop up. Overall I'd say:

TNG>VOY>ENT>TOS>dogshit>DS9
>>
>>70442937

Problem ive found with DS9 is that it was so antiquated to see stuff that was already explored in TNG being recycled but with less quality acting. In Voyager i can barely remember a couple of episodes but Janeway is very robotic at least Sisko had some heart left in him.
>>
The best TNG episodes beat the best DS9 episodes.

However, TNG has far more shitty episodes than DS9. Plus half the crew was pretty shitty. TNG fans like to parade around how bad Season 7 of DS9 was. But even that season had some gems and no where near compares to how bad S1 and 2 of TNG was.
>>
>>70449587

TNG>TOS>DS9>VOY>ENT

FTFY
>>
>>70449733

>no where near compares to how bad S1 and 2 of TNG was.

That was the whole beauty of it. Seeing actors change and gradually become their characters. You dont have many shows like that.

>>
>>70449904

i was implying DS9 was the dark side of TNG.
i was implying TOS explored more then just space just like TNG.
i was implying DS9 had an entire season of episodes on the Defiant.
>>
>>70449860
Oh I agree. I love both series a great deal. But I like DS9 more. Mostly because it had much better characters. Picard carried TNG, but many of the characters stayed fairly shit or underutilized for the whole series run. Hell some of them certainly became better quality actors throughout, but stayed fairly the same character wise. There was rarely any progress through the series, few dynamics explored. It was just one standalone after another sometimes giving a little shoutout here and there for fans to nerdgasm over "Oh my god Picard is playing his flute again!"
>>
>>70449733
The Neutral Zone, The Schizoid Man and The Measure of a Man are the best episodes of Star Trek (any series).

S1+S2 TNG haters only ever can cite the same 5 episodes out of 48 as examples of why it's so bad. It's clearly a meme. I don't think anyone who cites S1+S2 TNG as "bad" has actually seen it. They're the sort of person who relies on episode skipping guide images to watch Star Trek.
>>
>>70450043
As someone who recently rewatched all of TNG.

The majority of TNG S1 and 2 was just flat out awful. Those same 5 episodes are just the smelliest turds of the bunch.
>>
>>70450043
>The Neutral Zone, The Schizoid Man [...] are the best episodes of Star Trek (any series).
There's nothing wrong with having unpopular opinions, let me just put that out there. I'm not disapproving of how you feel about those episodes. But you are aware that you're a special snowflake and that nobody else in the world agrees with you, right?

I have to ask, because I don't think that your position justifies the accusation that people who disagree with you haven't actually seen the seasons in question.
>>
>>70449992

>Picard carried TNG

Although i agree that Picard was the best actor out of the entire ST both Riker and Data were absolutely superb actors in their own right. The chemistry between Riker and Picard is something i never seen replicated on another cast. There existed some kind of magic in the TNG crew.

If you're talking about the transwarp hub, then yes, there were six of those. But the old Janeway from the future infected the Queen with a virus when she was running distraction for the newly upgraded Voyager. She killed the Queen and thus the collective (pretty much).

Or at the very least, she crippled the collective.

Dukat was the greatest multi-faceted and complex villain that ever was a part of the Trek universe and in that last arc they turn him into an antichrist with Sisko as almost the literal messiah being a Prophet.

It's a shame such an intricate character was ruined at the last minute to create this symbolically Judao-Christian ending.

Actually, come to think of it, I was even a fan of the Pah-Wraith shit and the episode Covenant. But it never left "terra firma". It was always grounded in the he was still just going through this evolution of sorts.

They took off his teeth, made us see Marc Alaimo with a Bajoran prosthetic and then cranked up the magic to patent pending to where suddenly he's blind for reading the Text of the Kostomohjuhn and the fire cave scene.. just really fucking bad.

Hello, Bajor. Fellow Bajoran here. Yes, Dukat was the real star of Star Trek.

By the way, anyone else here not a reconciliast, but wishes the Cardassians had won?

Theirs was a truly effective fascist government that took a Bajor on its knees from a backwards religious shantyplanet and turned it into a cultural, technological and economic powerhouse within the space of fifty years.

The Bajoran uplifting was a social experiment in the way that many reformed or newly-warping civilizations are. The Federation is an experiment in degeneracy and excess. The Klingon Empire is an experiment in unchecked aggression. The Romulan Star Empire is an experiment in rampant xenophobia. But the Central Command's Cardassian Union was the grandest experiment of them all: a rejection of the gentle side of humanoid life and a wholehearted pursuit of our more lizardic side: The glorification of the strong, the self-sufficient, and the dominant. It was to be the beginning of a bolder and more uncompromising galactic civilization that would bring discipline where before there was only coddling; that would harden the soft, and that would not be afraid to say that equality means equal opportunities, not that all species regardless of education or skill are inherently equal to one another. It was a call out to all forms of life to transcend their passive, mediocre existances and aspire to become the heroic and unstoppable force that our galaxy always had the potential to become, under Central Command's leadership.

The Cardassian Union was the combined hopes, dreams and ambitions of all who dared to dominate; but in the end, these dreams were quashed by weak, subversive Vedeks who would rather hold their superiors back rather than attempt to catch up.

Daily reminder that Captain Maxwell inspired loyalty in every member of his crew by honestly caring about them and socialising with them as equals, he was a master in the art of interstellar battle and was completely holding his own against the flagship of the Federation, he fought for the Federation with everything he had, and Picard railroaded him to maintain peace with the traitorous, warmongering spoonheads.

Star Trek TNG in a nutshell:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFSjNCWxFws
>>
>>70448791
That young girl Q, that had 24 hours prior barely known of her power, wipes a planet on the verge of atmospheric collapse free of all pollution and repairs a warp core as it is about to breach.

Q, as a human, is frustrated by the Enterprise crew's inability to alter fundamental laws of physics.

The act of conflict between Q in their alternate/higher dimension of the Continuum caused multiple supernova within real space.

Q may primarily display powers that could easily be chalked up to illusion or mind alteration, but the few very real display of broken levels of power and influence over every aspect of reality should drive home the spirit of the Q race: they are omnipotent and omniscient until plot imposes a limitation.
