Is Mad Men worth watching?
>>
Only if you are into the 60's, though don't expect way too much 60's pop culture in the show (they always turn off the TV when a scene with a TV on starts, for example). Or if you lie a lot irl since you may relate to the main character.
>>

why even bother posting
>>
It's television's greatest achievement along with the Sopranos and fostered the best threads on this board. It's incredible. It's not a swinging 60s good time but a nuanced character piece, and examination on advertising's influence on the formation of modern american identity.

>Is Mad Men worth watching?

Yes, it’s actually a really good tv show.

I had disregarded “Mad Men” when it came out as a chick-flick kinda tv series but when the final season was announced, I figured I’d at least check it out via NetFlix and ended up marathoning the entire series in time to catch the final season live.

Depends on what you're into. I mean, at the end of the day, it's basically a show about people talking, so you might find that boring if you watch like Game of Plebs or whatever.

It's a really well done show, and for the most part, all the actors are excellent. I eventually got bored with it trying to binge watch it, but I occasionally come back to it to watch an episode every now and then.

Men should not be concerned with the adventures of another man's penis for seven years. This is primarily a woman's show-- one that men can put up with.

Honestly its bad.

The characters appear to have deep and profound growth and development but in reality they don't remember and are rarely affected by the events of the previous episode.

I would say watch season one, if any, for the only original and interesting episodes. The rest is forced meaningless garbage with faux-meaning.

Just the usual Jewish TV

Mad Men is a tricky show to recommend unless you know the person you're recommending it to isn't a fucking degenerate. I watch Game of Thrones but I have no delusions about its quality.

So yes, OP. Mad Men is worth watching and one of the greatest shows of all time. There is also no other show that makes /tv/ plebs so angry. Every single Mad Men thread there are children who probably have The Avengers Blu-Ray set and a Breaking Bad poster on their wall that have to come in and tell everyone how much Mad Men sucks, probably after only watching the first episode. So you can be a Redditor like them or you can have actual good taste.

It's pretty funny how Mad Men threads have developed the past 6 months or so.

An OP posts that it's shit/overrated/a soap opera. Then the real fans come in and turn it into a bonafide Mad Men thread, reminiscent of the old /scdp/ days. With discussion, insight, nostalgia, favorite scenes, etc.

This being a summer weekend, it's pretty low rent.
>>
>>70435411
You mean, an OP rightly calls Mad Men shit, and a bunch of shills come in to splurge all over their guilty pleasure soap opera?
>>
>>70435343
>its a Stirling has a heart attack episode but its never mentioned again ever
>Its a Don has a deep regret about cheating on his wife episode but its never brought up again

and on and on.

The show is shit. Fans of it are just blinded to its bullshit by handsome actors/actresses and close up shots of their face showing 'emotion' despite it not being anything more than a shot of a good looking person's face attempting to imply meaning.
>>
>>70435288
>The characters appear to have deep and profound growth and development but in reality they don't remember and are rarely affected by the events of the previous episode.

Breaking Bad is the only half decent show where a character undergoes a clear development/transformation.

You are pleb as fuck if you hate MM, Sopranos, Deadwood, et al.
>>
>Start watching season 1 long ago
>Stopped for some reason
>Want to pick it up
>Forgot where I left off
>Forgotten most fine details
>Don't want to re watch whole first season
Is there a worse feel?
>>
>>70435525
Personally I think drama shows need to have clear and intentional story designed from the beginning to make it worth watching.

Otherwise you end up with watered down garbage, like Mad Men, which is written because tv executives wanted another season to sell Ads and not because there was a story to tell.

This is why Mad Men falls apart by season 3.
>>
>>70435491
>splurge

close, memellenial

but the use of shill was apropos

unironically enjoying things in 2016 is so passé
>>
>>70435510

What are your favorite shows? I'll start the list for you so you don't need to mention these.

>izombie
>rick and morty
>bob's burgers
>marvel anything
>>
>>70435600
>Otherwise you end up with watered down garbage, like Mad Men, which is written because tv executives wanted another season to sell Ads and not because there was a story to tell.

lmao you poor fool, Weiner's vision is the tightest, most well thought out in the medium, even more so than Chase's which meandered at times, Simon as well

Maybe try the series again in a decade or so when you've lived some.
>>
>>70435510
>ts a Stirling has a heart attack episode but its never mentioned again ever
But that's fucking wrong. In the episode where Roger does LSD, in the morning he asks Don if they can skip work and go pick up chicks, and Don reminds him about the heart attack, then he fucks off with Megan
>>
Mad Men is the best pleb filter there is. It's a real tragedy that /scdp/ is gone now because they were always the best threads on /tv/.
>>
>>70435600
I'm not too interested in what you think. MM is the best show ever made with the Sopranos a close second. In both shows the characters never learn shit and plot points are often dropped/forgotten about but I'm not autistic so it doesn't bother me.
>>
>>70435510
>its a Stirling has a heart attack episode but its never mentioned again ever
I know you're just feebly baiting into the wind here, but you might as well watch enough to actually sound like you have a real criticism if you're going to do this.
>>
>>70435343
Well put.
>>
>>70435788

>In both shows the characters never learn shit and plot points are often dropped/forgotten

Which makes it realistic, in my opinion. In real life people just get dropped from the picture and that's that. People always bitch about the Russian in The Sopranos or Sal in Mad Men never appearing again, but that's honestly more true to life.

In real life, things aren't always wrapped up with a nice bow for dramatic purposes. Shit just happens. That's my main criticism of Breaking Bad. It was too cute. Too much coincidence. It was "TV writing", whereas I feel like with The Sopranos and especially Mad Men, I never have to suspend my disbelief as much.
>>
>>70435652
havn't seen the first three.

>>70435657

>>70435771
one line but the otherwise life threatening and changing event doesn't even affect Stirling in anyother way beside a banter line from Don.

>>70435825
no. I quit watching somewhere in season 3-4 because everything that happened was dropped from the story except Don running around in Korea.

Its worse than professional wrestling.

If this show's stories were set in the 2010s with uglier actors nobody would give a shit about it.

Nostalgia fags and people who like watching Big Tits secretary and January Jones in Lingerie are the only people who pretend to be amused by the show.

There is no actaul story other than Don hates his wife for no reason and also had some deep thoughts in korea.

That monologue was the first thing that sparked my interest for Draper. After watching action filled Sons of Anarchy, beginning Mad Men is like a cool transition from intense action to something more relaxing and slow paced. I hope it'll give me the feels, love the shows that give feels. I also hope it'll top House MD which honestly was the feeliest TV show I've encountered until now. Not that I've watched many series, Mad Men would be the fifth I'm starting.
