He literally just gives Eric a pep talk about the concentration camps and proceeds to offer a remedial education on geology. That is what was shown. In Days of Future Past, he's able to weave the metal from steel beams into the wires of the sentinels or whatever the fuck he did. How the hell did he even know how they worked or what they looked like inside?
Prior to that, it seemed like all he was able to do was hurl metal at his enemies.
