Not once Trask's death was averted. In a fit of cosmic irony, keeping the man who spent years hunting down & dissecting mutants, including most of the original X-Men and Brotherhood, and created the Sentinels, alive created a timeline where things didn't go to shit.

The first three films are not canon anymore and the new timeline will not lead to the events. If there are any inconsistencies then it's because the two timelines are not in the same universe. The new wolverine will not become the wolverine of the first 3 films.
