Actually no, I consider her a salty bitch because she just acts fed up all the time, early Buffy actually the spark of life in her and doesn't act like the main character in a soap opera, which is what the show becomes in the later seasons.
And that ties in to why that same kind of shit didn't bother me in early seasons, it was still a fun supernatural-adventure show that didn't take itself seriously so these issues are forgettable. In the later seasons when the show gets darker and more melodramatic, these problems are far more glaring.

Maybe reads the Angel "After the Fall" arc, but nothing else. Joss really benefitted from somebody being there to tell him no when his ideas got a bit silly. The only important thing from the rest of the series is that Xander and Dawn are now fucking, and Angel killed Giles.

Jasmine shit aside, season 4 had a lot of awesome Angelus scenes. The episode where Angel and Angelus have their internal conflict while Faith watches is one of my favorites.
Season 1 of Buffy is more like a conventional '90s adventure series like Early Edition or Sliders.
I wish that type of show made a comeback honestly.
Anyway, Buffy's sweet spot is (BETWEEN HER LEGS) season 2-5.

Wesley's character development was one of the most surprising things for me when I first started watching the series. I never expected his character to end up the way it did by season 5, but I was immensely pleased with his development as a whole. He's one of the most well-rounded characters in the series.

The lore will definitely get deeper. There's a great episode in Buffy's fifth season called "Fool for Love" that digs deeper into Spike's history with the Whirlwind. I recommend watching the episode of Angel from season 2 called "Darla" along with it, because the stories actually go together. You get Angel's point of view as well as Spike's.
