What is your favorite Tom Cruise film?
>>70386369
didn't we just have this thread? hell isn't it still up?
I don't get why this film doesn't get more attention
>>70386424
the basement part kinda drags it down.
This is one of the rare cases where a disaster movie might have worked, there was no real need to slow down the pacing like that for so long.
>>70386739
That was one of the best parts, Tim Robbins was great.
>>70386739
the bad parts came after that. turning cruise into a hero and the anticlimatic aliens dying out of nowhere
>>70386756
I think it just doesnt fit.
An entire movie about an alien attack taking place in a shelter? Yeah that works obviously since we just had one of these and it was good.
Mix it with breathtaking thrilling action and it becomes sort of a roadblock.
Ever time i wanna rewatch this film i remember the basement and dont wanna see it.

He is great in it, check out the writer of the books before and after seeing the movie:
>"I was particularly stunned by the casting of Cruise, who is no more my Vampire Lestat than Edward G. Robinson is Rhett Butler."
>"ON TOM CRUISE: From the moment he appeared Tom was Lestat for me. He has the immense physical and moral presence; he was defiant and yet never without conscience; he was beautiful beyond description yet compelled to do cruel things. The sheer beauty of Tom was dazzling, but the polish of his acting, his flawless plunge into the Lestat persona, his ability to speak rather boldly poetic lines, and speak them with seeming ease and conviction were exhilarating and uplifting. The guy is great.

Same thing happened with Jack Reacher's author, whether or not it's just lip service who knows but regardless, Tom has never half-assed a role in his life.

tom cruise is better than all of these fucking amateurs. every movie he's in is absolutely fucking perfection, without being 3deep5me obscure "kino" meme bullshit. even his "blockbuster" action movies are actually extremely entertaining. literally everything he's in is perfect.

This. Cruise wouldn't break character even if the DP was in his eyeline wearing a clownsuit holding a picket sign that said I love Xenu.
episode one, where he explodes live on tv
>>70394632
>not christopher reeving it on set to prove you don't need a stunt double
I wonder what would happen if the guy had a falling out with the Church of Scientology?
>>70394632
Has there ever been a more consummate professional?
What's so fucking magic about tom cruise is that some of his projects are actually pretty fucking average if you take him out.
Like jack reacher feels like endless blockbuster that tries to copy jason/Bond but boom put the cruise in there and it's top comfy operator/paranoid drifter with a good heart core.
Same thing with Edge of T. Generic looking mecha pseudo drivel time travel anime cash grab.
The dude is a FRANCHISE MAKER. There are very few creatives that make a project. You're cast in a second role in a cruise joint as a struggling actor you know you have a shot a the A list.
The dude rocks cult classics, art film, entertaining no brainer flicks, comfy core, operator stuff, scifi, existential movies, road movies, in all fucking budget rangers.
Even his choice of religion/sect/cult makes fucking sense. If you're gonna sucker people into a mythical story to control them might as well pick something NOT written 2k years ago.
Scientology is gonna be a thing thing 200 years from now and the dude is nearly at the reigns of it in the early stages of the thing.
