Neither Invincible nor TWD aren't as well mapped out as any GRRM novel is. He's making them up as he goes, relying on shitty cliffhangers and unoriginal storytelling; he only co-produces TWD show, he barely writes anything. He basically gives the showrunner his input, then goes and fucks off for the rest of the day; the outcast comic/show is so cliché a 10 year old could write it in half a day after watching the exorcist.
GRRM's writing isn't genius by any stretch of the imagination, but at least he puts far more effort into it than Kirkman does.

This guy has no self-awareness at all.
I believe that when GRRM gave then the rights and told them how it was all gonna end, he didn't expect the show to catch up with the books so fast, he didn't think they would cut, and/or kill half of the characters and plotlines they ended up cutting.
He did express this surprise in a couple of interviews. I remember one when he was telling that time to time he was reading the script with D&D and saying "hey wait, this character is not dead in the books" and they were like "well yeah..."
He did also say, with all words, that D&D were more prone to kill off characters than he is, he used the words "thirst for blood" or something like that as a nice way to say "yeah, they kill off characters for shock value m8."
It's not GRRM fault. He was always a slow writer, he likes to keep things neat. And he write himself into a mess of a knot that he needs to untangle. He also said that himself. Thats why the last two books are not ready yet.
He's thinking of a way align everyone, all his remaining/alive POV characters with the main thread, which is, Danny.
D&D are fucking it up by rushing the fuck out of it.

Yeah, I checked and even the sopranos with only 6 seasons they averaged 86 episodes , over the 60 episodes GoT will have by the end of this, its 6th season. So basically GRRM thought he could have the cake and eat it too..
