Who is Michael Bay

Disagree all you want but I don't think there's a single Michael Bay movie I wouldn't watch. They're all just light hearted entertainment with explosions and cool shit. Meanwhile there are many, many directors who have at least one movie which is super pretentious or just really really shit.
>>
>>70343965

>>
>>70343982

They're probably my least favourite of his movies. But they're still watchable. They're just dumb entertainment, they don't try to take themselves too seriously.

Meanwhile even someone like Chris Nolan, who I generally like, made a movie like Interstellar which is pretty good for most of it but then has a cringeworthy, sickly, schmultzy, terrible ending that I literally can't even watch without wanting to blow my own head off

>love is the fifth dimension!

Christ what a fucking hack
>>
>>70343960

i loved it, all the negative reviews talk about it how it's pacing sucks, but i have a pretty shit attention span and normally it takes me 4 hours to finish a 2 hour movie because i'll pause to dick around every so often, but i remember being fully hooked with this the entire time.

and they all bitched about hemsworth being a smart dude, when in my life the smartest people i've ever met happen to be very attractive too

I don't like pretentious emotional bullshit. If I'm watching a movie on the TV and they comes on I'll just stop watching

I'm also not saying Michael Bay is flawless, I'm not even saying anything close to that, I really don't understand how you managed to get to that straw man. I'm saying there isn't a movie of his I wouldn't watch. Which isn't the same for most directors. Eg with James Cameron I wouldn't watch Avatar again because it was shit.

It's a strong superhero movie but it's carried a lot by its antagonist, has quite a few scenes that feel superfluous, isn't directed with any discernible or memorable style and its script is pretty hokey at times. It's not a classic nor a high point of the medium in any way.

It represents what Malick believes is the presence of grace in nature. The dominant animal shows mercy/compassion to the injured one, and lets it live. It's not of hugely allegorical importance, but it furthers the main theme of the film and develops it.
>>70347710
I'm not blinded by my fondness of the film. I agree, the CGI isn't very good. But allowing that five minute segment to ruin the entire film for you is limiting yourself massively. It doesn't warrant deeming the entire film to be bad. On Brad Pitt, I honestly had no issue with his performance. It seemed fine to me.

Which never happens. If this however was his point, why go all out and use fucking dinosaurs and not a lioness taking care of a deer cup- which actually happened? Was putting dinosaurs acting 'human' in there a choice to piss off American Evangelicals?
It was a shit decision. And yes, a radical drop of quality, even for 5 minutes can ruin a film.
>>
>>70347397
This. Episode I is unironically my favourite SW movie. Also A New Hope is my favourite of the OT
>>
>>70348080
>Which never happens
And then you go ahead and mention an instance in which it did happen (according to you). Way to contradict yourself.
>why go all out and use fucking dinosaurs
Because it subverts the expectation of the viewer more so than the use of any creature from our time. People generally see that period as a ruthless existence of survival of the fittest. Malick is questioning that idea in the context of what he believes. It's also in line with the entire creation sequence. We're given a glimpse into what Malick suggests is the first act of compassion, and the development of that nature vs grace dynamic that's so prominent in the film.
>Was putting dinosaurs acting 'human' in there a choice to piss off American Evangelicals?
No, Malick is a devout christian himself. What he put into this film is based on his philosophical and theological beliefs.
>And yes, a radical drop of quality, even for 5 minutes can ruin a film.
If you let such a minor detail ruin the entire film for yourself, it's pretty clear you didn't want to like it in the first place

As someone who grew up in Texas with brothers, Pitt was entirely believable as a father who clearly cared for his kids but wasn't quite sure how to show it

The only good capeshit are V for Vendetta and Watchmen. But they aren't really capeshit.

Because their shit is pretty basic conceptually. For me, it's more of a hatred for his fanbase than it is a hatred for his work.

Also technically correct, but there should be a "must have made more than five films" rule or something
>>70346370
Scorsese hasn't made a bad movie. He's made sme mediocre flicks (like Kundun or New York, New York) but I've never seen a movie from him that was outright "bad."
Also TWoWS is one of his best.

The Dark Knight is absolutely the high point of this current glut of comic book movies.

Nolan's Batman trilogy is worth watching, which is more than can be said for most of the other comic book movies, tv shows, and other shit that has been cranked out lately.

Martin Scorsese.

By far his worst film was Boxcar Bertha, and it's still pretty decent.
