1.11 is basically a prettier retelling of the anime up to about the Ramiel fight i believe, with a few minor differences. 2.22 follows some similar plot beats but goes off in a different direction overall, especially at the end. 3.33 is a completely different plot from the anime. 1st is good imo, but the rest are nothing to write home about

Well if you weren't a fan of the show, I wouldn't recommend bothering with any of it quite frankly.
Rebuild has some gorgeous animation and I particularly love how it reimagines some of the classic scenes from the series (the Operation Yashima sequence is just breathtaking).
Still, Eva as series is, ostensibly, about the psychology of the characters. It's really Anno exorcising his own struggles with depression, repressed sexuality, reclusiveness, etc, on screen. If you're someone who enjoys delving into the psychology of "the stories people tell themselves about themselves," it's fantastic. But if you're the kind of person who simply doesn't care much for introspective thought processes, it will likely feel pretentious to you.Because you don't fucking get it.

For the most part it's on point. 1 is essentially a remastered/reshot version of the first half of NGE with slight divergence. It's pretty given that it's essentially the first time we got to see Evangelion with the HD treatment.
Fuck the haters, I loved 2.0. The way it veers off into the alternate route, the gorgeous visuals & the way they handlednear-third impactwas mind-blowing.
3.0 is divisive as fuck. Everything has changed & you'll either love it or despise it. They GROSSLY underestimated the power of the ants. Merurem and the Royal Guards were overpowered monsters. Kite, Netero, Morel, Knov, and Zeno all rolled in there sure that nothing could surprise them, and everyone of them was shook when they actually saw/felt what they were up against.
Nukes aren't some magic "fix it" button where we just drop a nuke every time there's a problem, genius. They're a last resort for a massive threat. Suspecting but not KNOWING that the ants were as strong as they were, Netero had the Rose inserted into his body because he knew that if he faced the King and proved to be no match for him, that was about the only other way to defeat him and he couldn't guarantee that they'd have the chance to do so later. If the situation was bad enough that he had to resort to that, he knew it was imperative to nip it in the bud before it got worse. Sure, he enjoyed the opportunity to fight Meruem, but he didn't KNOW how strong he would be nor did he KNOW whether or not the Rose would be effective.

Because not only have the rebuilds been pointless and added nothing to a franchise that already had enough strikes against it, but 3.0 proved that Anno has simply gone full George Lucas and doesn't know what he's doing at all anymore. So much hatred for the Rebuilds. 1.0 and 2.0 were fine, the former a clone of the first six episodes and the latter a reimagining of the middle of the series. Some of the atmosphere was sacrificed in the translation, though the films still hit the same notes and beef up the action. While I'm fond of 2.0, I recognize NGE is the better work. 3.0 was... disappointing. Redundant and underdeveloped. But it looked and sounded nice.
