What does /who/ think of the start of the E-Space trilogy?
Is Adric a shit in this, or does he not become a shit until later?
Would the marshmen be good in the new series?

We definitely aren't doing the BF audios. There's 200+ in the monthly range, 80+ Companion Chronicles, 50+ EDAs, 30+ 4DAs, 20+ Lost Stories and loads of special releases. That would take about 400 threads in total.
Plus, as you said, even fewer people would discuss them.

>>70324398
Let's limit ourselves to video Doctor Who stories. Dimensions in Time, the TV Movie, those audios that were made into webcasts and Scream of the Shalka. Then NuWho.
>>
>>70325227
Oh forgot this gem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ADGrq8cQco&feature=youtu.be
>>
>>70325286
Maybe just do threads for each range of audios/novels instead of the individual stories?
>>
>>70325286
>We definitely aren't doing the BF audios
Maybe we could do a poll and select just a handful of notable ones? People might want to talk about Spare Parts or Zagreus or whatever. Or do threads for "the first 20 audios" and so on, discussing a batch of them all at once.
>>
>>70325445
>>70325492
That's a good idea, do multiple stories per thread. Maybe we could go by year, so it will still feel chronological?
>1991 books
>1992 books
>1993 books
Then, when the audios start:
>1999 books and audios
>2000 books and audios
And so on.
>>
>>70325677
That works, then Dimensions in Time, the TVM etc can just get inserted in their proper chronological spot. Is there some kind of resource with everything listed in publication order, though?

>>

To be honest, I've never really understood the title of the show. I assumed that it was named that to imply a mystery as to his name but I've never seen it explicitly confirmed by Lambert or anything.
>>
>>70329021
>I assumed that it was named that to imply a mystery as to his name
It's not just his name, his whole character was a mystery. In the beginning you didn't know anything about him except that he's an alien and some kind of scientist. With the amount of backstory he and the Time Lords have been given now, the title doesn't really fit anymore.
>>
>>70329021
It's a show named after the main character, lots of shows do it.
>>
>>70329158
>With the amount of backstory he and the Time Lords have been given now, the title doesn't really fit anymore.
It's a pity, really. While I really enjoyed all the gallifrey/time lord episodes it's hard to seriously say that they're a worthwhile addition to the show.

>>70329161
lol
>>
>>70329158
>With the amount of backstory he and the Time Lords have been given now, the title doesn't really fit anymore.
Nonsense. The Doctor is a mystery to all those whose lives he drops in upon. We might know him pretty well by this point, but every time he arrives in a story he's "who?" and he never quite fits into any situation. That's part of the magic of how he's still going after 50 years.

And frankly, even with all the backstory and character analysis we have on him, part of the fun of the character is still his ambiguity. You never truly know what he's thinking, even when he's being honest or emotional. He's a character that encompasses universes, different interpretations, and theoretically infinite layers, and that increases the older he gets. A master performer and schemer, a man who casually weighs up unimaginable moral odds and does mind boggling calculations in the span of a second, all while having a smile and a joke and tottering along? He will always be Who.

>>
>>70329530
Literally three instances in the entire 50 years of the show and that's proof? They're simple production mistakes. If they say "Basil" two more times they're going to change the name of the show to Doctor Basil.

Chill out muppets, the 'he's called Doctor Who!' thing is just an advanced way of baiting people silly enough to think canon exists.
>>
>>70329671
The guy was talking about why the show was called what it was. What RTD was doing has nothing to do with the shows creation.
>>
>>70330286
We're not talking meta-fictionally, the credits are irrelevant.

By the way, I don't personally have a problem with people referring to the character as Dr. Who. People have always done that, and they always will. But it's obviously not his name in-universe.

>>
>>70331202
The creators of the show named him Dr. Who for us, they can call him whatever they want in the show but his name is Dr. Who so we can call him Dr. Who (or Doctor Who if you're slightly less autistic than the fucks that demand he be called the Doctor).

>>
>>70331133
>Are we in universe? No. Then his name is Doctor fucking Who you twat.
Despite not being "in universe" yourself, you might very easily want to talk about the circumstances of that fictional universe. And if one of those circumstances is "the Doctor does not go by 'Doctor Who' in any interpretation of this universe televised in the last forty years", then it's something you might find yourself wanting to clarify.
Let's have nuance, yeah? You can call him Doctor Who yourself AND acknowledge that he has a different, unknown name in the current version of the show.

You're so eager to shout at people who autistically demand he be called "the Doctor" - even when they aren't fucking present! Notice >>70330966 stated they didn't mind! - that you've just lapped around to a different end of the spectrum.

Pretty good, probably the best of the season. Good directing and some neat plot twists along the way.

Though I gotta say, I don't like the way this and most other sci fi shows tend to get the concept evolution completely fucked up. It's not normally a big deal for Doctor Who to have crappy science, but the theory of evolution is still controversial enough in the general public that I think it's something that people should try to avoid misrepresenting on tv, especially for kids. It's less of a problem in the UK than in the US though.

Adric is nowhere near as bad as you would expect, judging from fan opinion.
>>
>>70341409
He gets worse over time. By the time you get to the Davison era he's pretty fucking annoying.
>>
>>70341499
I've seen all of his episodes. There are times when he is annoying but mostly he seems like a normal companion. The hate is really overblown.
>>
>>70341970
Personally I find him almost unbearably annoying at times but each to their own. Tegan and Nyssa were great though.
>>
>>70341409
>>70341970
This desu, he's not the best companion ever but I never understood the extreme Adric hate. I think he and Baker actually had some pretty good chemistry.
>>
>>70342127
The only times that even come to mind is where he sided with the villain in Four to Doomsday and when he said snotty "girls suck!" stuff. I can definitely see why you'd dislike him, and I'd give anybody that considers him their favourite a very funny look, but for the most part he's just sort of there. I find Rose and River more grating. But maybe that's because they're actually beloved by fans, despite being annoying characters, so I'm kicking back a little harder than I would've.

But yeah. I just remember it being a bit surprising when I finally got up to his episodes, after seeing people constantly saying how they HATE him and he was AWFUL. But I felt the same sort of underwhelming surprise when I got up to horrible episodes like Time and the Rani. The hate-hype was too strong.

I honestly don't care about ""culture"", I don't feel like I have any kind of national identity or anything like that.

Why would you be proud to be British? What have you contributed to "culture"? Why take credit for something some man you'll never meet did long before you were born? Do you honestly believe that you are better than other people, purely because of where you were born?

There are kids at my childrens' school that don't speak a word of English. They spend more time teaching the kids about foreign culture and history than they do about their own country's. Hell they even spend more time learning about and celebrating Ramadan than they do Xmas. British culture, tradition and values are being eroded and replaced by an alien one. In twenty years time I do not want my daughters to have to cover their hair to leave the house or else face a stoning but I strongly believe that things are headed that way unless we draw the line now. This country is full. We are short on jobs, housing and public funds. Immigrants should sort out the shit in their own countries rather than coming here and shitting on ours.

How weird is it that Moffat's last episode as showrunner is gonna be the christmas special next year

Not the finale of a series, not even a two parter like RTD. Just a christmas special that'll be on tv probably 5 months after series 10 airs

What is he even gonna do, bring back River AGAIN? The only way it'll feel like an event is if Capaldi is leaving too, but that's shit

And if it's that, having Capaldi regenerate in a special when it's been months since his last full series aired sounds even worse than when they regenerated Matt Smith only a month after the 50th special

The scheduling is just weird
>>
>>70357032
RTD's seasons were broadcast in Spring, so this scheduling isn't unusual.

Contrary to what the press say, Chinballs will want Capaldi to stay for s11. The transition for his takeover as show runner will be a lot easier without having to adapt scripts and find a new key cast member.

>>70355150

sounds like you just had a bad history teacher

history teaches critical thinking and reminds us not to repeat past mistakes
>>
>>70357032
Moff intended to go out on Husbands, I think. I'm sure he'll come up with something, maybe he could do something touching and low-key rather than go over the top for his final show.
>>
>>70357403
Yeah you could say it's SUPPOSED to teach you that shit, but does it really? School never teaches you about big concepts like that, they just tell you some shit and then make you answer some questions to prove your short term memory is ok
>>
>>70357403
>history teaches critical thinking and reminds us not to repeat past mistakes
It's useless as such because nobody who makes mistakes actually identify with mistakers of the past.
>>
>>70357301
Yes, I know that's the RTD era scheduling but when Tennant regenerated and RTD left at the same time there was a big finale in 2 parts, one airing on Christmas and one on New Years. And it came after a big buildup with that year of specials

Moffat's one christmas episode finale of his era coming 5 months after series 10 has finished is just sad. Fizzling out. Also Christmas episodes are never particularly good because they write it for the christmas day audience rather than attempting anything of quality

I still say that's gonna be weird

Hope you're right about Chibnalls keeping Capaldi though
>>
>>70357416
There was someone else Moffat could have asked to take over as show runner, if Chibnall wasn't yet available.
>>
>>70357416
That's what I mean by what is he gonna do? He played that hand already when he thought it was his last episode
>>
>>70356730
>Buy the DVDs

I would if each fucking story wasn't like $20-30 each.
>>
>>70357524
It's not up to Moffat to hire a new showrunner. The BBC wanted Chibnall and asked Moffat if he'd talk him into taking the job
>>
>>70357442
that really depends on what school you go to, what subjects you do, etc.

schools should absolutely do a better job at preparing people for the real world but unless you went to some ghetto prison-school you almost certainly got something out of your education

Most mistakes are fairly obvious, but are born from either people being forced to pursue short-term goals to the detriment of the future just to not be edged out now, or through people overestimate their ability to control situation.

If we lived in the world where it wouldn't happen, we'd still live in caves following first failed attempt at agriculture.
