Wow, what a gem. Thank you to whichever one of you recommended me this. I was initially hestitant while watching due to the unconventional dramatic structure that Tarkovsky employs but by the 90 minute mark I had come to really appreciate the uniqueness of the whole thing. Also, goes with out saying, but the film looks absolutely amazing. Lots of powerful, resonant images throughout

One of my favorites. It manages to be "deep" without any pretense or inauthenticity

russians and their mutha fucking glorious endings.

I watched this movie for the first time on DUDE WEED LMAO and I think it helped me notice the look of everything in extreme detail. I'd never seen a movie which looked liked Stalker. It looked more like a moving painting than a film. It felt like I could run my hand on the screen and feel the texture of the frame. All his movies have that textural element but Stalker is like seeing another world of possibilities of what film can be and how it can make you feel with no dialogue or music.

stalker was boring as fuck and i liked solaris and mirror so dont call me a pleb. stalker didnt even having many good shots, the only one i really remember was of the old burnt out car in the grassy field.
>>
>>70294677
Old burnt-out things in grassy fields was like half the movie

I love the visuals though. No extreme shots or anything technically impressive, just great aesthetic sense and use of color. The way it goes back and forth from sepia to color is really cool

What's with the vitriol towards this movie?
>>
>>70294524
Yeah I felt that way too. My problem with science fiction in film is that characters and development are secondary to the setting or plot. This was almost the complete opposite where the setting was given meaning by the characters. After all, the location is just a seemingly abandoned building in the country side or a dilapidated moldy room with a telephone; no fancy post production special effects or sets. Really what I'm saying is that the story didn't get caught up with inane details of the setting because that ultimately doesn't matter

I feel like this represented something significant but I don't know what, can any patricians help me?

The only thing about Stalker that bothered me was the editing, and sound design. The cinematography was wonderful, but there were a lot of strange and abrupt cuts to the ambient sound or music which at times were jarring.

Aside from that small, small qualm it is a spectacular movie. Brilliantly written with great character development and performances (especially Alisa Freyndlikh).

I want to say I noticed it did that whenever he was asleep or away from the Zone. My interpretation? Stalker mentions that he himself is most happy while in the Zone. Perhaps the sepia filter is supposed to be symbolic of a dreadful malaise that overcomes him whenever he is separated from the Zone.

Nigga you don't have any idea about good shots if you can't see how nearly every shot in Stalker is perfectly composed

Was it ever explained how exactly the Zone was dangerous? Why were they so cautious? What killed so many people in the tunnel that was never shown?

stalker is pretty much my least liked film, yet it also contains the best scene of any film, the pan over the pools of water. thats how great tarkovsky is. fucking unreal. if the soviet union can produce him, we need to bring it back. all hail putin, who will revive soviet cinema!!!!
>>
>>70297442
where can i purchase "Your Dick" and "Your Mom Nightly", they sound very transgressive for tarkovsky.

yeah, the first stalker game was loosely based on this and the book 'roadside picnic'
