Sometimes I really struggle to understand how Bond/Casino Royale fans can be so delusional. Is it just blindness induced by the intro, which is pretty good but doesn't reflect at all what the rest of the movie is like?

Nah I got the same feeling at times. It could have been a better movie than CR but Bardem was a terrible villain and I think Craig was already feeling the Bond fatigue. It wasn't as phoned in as Spectre but I think he gave more in CR.

no QoS is the best craig bond.
it has a more diverse and developed and interesting storeyline (as opposed to a cardgame).
of course its annoying in that its preachy from the left - they have a john bolton looking character as the bad US guy, and a non-white man as the source of morality - coinciding with the marxist view of american culture and international standing,
QoS also has the best bond woman of the 4 - olga - she is the finest flesh one can find, and a fine actress
bonds character is more developed - the climax being when he threw his friend in the trash - a statement on his life and situation of great depth
of course i like the watch CR and QoS in a row as if they are one movie - so i will not fight too much over it

That is another thing that bothered me about Skyfall
In Casino Royale Bond is at the start of his career - he's just be promoted to 00s status and they establish that he barely has any kills under his belt.
Quantum of Solace starts immediately after the previous movie, so not maybe a few months passes between the two movies, if you count the part where he's recovering from his wounds at the end of CR.
THEN in Skyfall they directly jump at the point where he's considered old and decrepit and should retire already because field duty is for youngsters who can shoot straight. Like what the fuck happened? How much time passed between QoS and Skyfall exactly? it may be a commentary on the whole Bond franchise, but in-universe it doesn't work one bit.
