how the fuck did the Friends afford their apartments?

fucking bullshit
>>
it was a reality show and they were getting paid several million per episode
>>
>>70177575
How much is the rent for that in NYC?
>>
TIL When Matt LeBlanc auditioned for the role of Joey in "Friends" he only had $11 dollars to his name. When the cast got their paychecks, the first thing that Courteney Cox bought was a car. Matt LeBlanc bought a hot dinner.
>>
>>70177575
Chandler had a really good job, other than that who knows

Hahahahahaha...Ha ha....HAhahahahahahahahahaha
>>
>>70177575
Monica's apartment was her grandmothers and it was rent controlled. Chandler just made a big buck and Joey was a regular on a tv show. Also cheaper rents.
>>
>>70177575
Rent control, wasn't it? I could've sworn there was a whole episode about how Monica was trying to keep the super from finding out that her Grandma wasn't still living there.
>>
>>70177575
Can't remember when or if they ended the plot point, but in the early seasons, Monica was revealed to be illegally subletting her apartment which was still owned by her dead grandmother. It came up in the one with Joey and the dancing when Rachel pissed off the super. I don't know if it ever came up again. Chandler and Joey's apartment was generally regarded to be smaller and of lower quality so I always assumed their rent was lower which they afforded through standard bachelor cheap living.
>>
>>70177627
minimum 5k/month
>>
>>70177575
It was the 90's I guess. It's similar in London, people tell me that in the 90's you could rent a 1 bedroom flat in the Kings Road for £600 a month, now it's £2000+ a month.
>>
>>70177860
This. The grandmother qualified for rent control, so the landlord couldn't raise rent more than like 1-2% each year.

that building has nth corners.
>>
>>70178914
In the 60's and 70's having a corner office was primo real estate so a handful of buildings spent crazy energy maximising how many corner offices you could get, check out rockerfella plaza. It would most likely be cruciform plan but its still abit out there.
>>
Seinfeld was pretty realistic about the character's living conditions.

Jerry was a successful comedian and had a good apartment. So did Elaine who had a string of good corporate jobs. Kramer somehow lived nicely, but that was kind of the joke about him. George's living conditions fluctuated with his job situation: sometimes he lived well, other time he was forced to move back home.
>>
>>70180102
If i remember an architect went back and tried reconstructing them from available information, there are no real plans for these buildings because most sets exist in impossible space.

Socially, not financially.
Al is a wealthy construction/contractor owner. Gaybo is a high priced lawyer, other Gaybo a school PE teacher. Fidgety is one of the top real estate guys in LA (which could justify a lot of wealth), Fidgety's wife is either stay at home mom or works for Al.

It stands to reason Al (or other parents) may have backed them financially when buying their first house.

Not even.

1. There would have to be at least one unstable single mom in there parading random men through her home every month.
2. The central nuclear family shouldn't have three kids, it should have two absolute maximum statistically and the single mom should have three or more.
3. The gay couple should be having alternative sex partners in their home regularly if they're to exist at all.

>>70182424
>Phill and Claire but their house is the most normal one

The house that's used for the outside and establishing shots is a $2.5million home.

I'm not arguing that the families shouldn't have money, because all of them have at least one member with a job that would conceivably provide them that level of cash, but that a tv show calling itself "modern family" then being set in upper class Los Angeles doesn't make a shitfuck of sense.

There is the one joke between Chandler and Joey though "we could cook?". So they ordered food every single day. Im not sure that qualifies as living cheap. Chandler definitely made bank. He paid for the entire wedding with Monica from his savings after her parents spent the money on something else (a beach house?).

My brother is working at a Nuclear Plant atm and he got in through his background in magnetic generators (building them so no fancy degree or anything). He says its super boring though cause he goes there for a month and lives in a barrack and does fuck all since all nuclear plants are built outside of cities then he has a month off.

maggie and master bedroom should be lisa and barts rooms, but on the other side of the house
barts room should be master bedroom since it is located on the side that overlooks ned's house
and neither bart nor lisa had a walk in closet
and the master bath is on the wrong side of the house, it should be to the left of the stairs coming up just outside homer & marge's room

>>70184935
maggies' play room is to the right of the kitchen, laundry room is in the basement and the garage is not a 2 car garage since the other side of the garage is occupied by the stairs leading down to the basement
>>
>>70185381
In nicer apartments and houses there's usually a goal to give each bedroom it's own bathroom.

Americans are strange about bathrooms, which is partly why public gender neutral bathrooms are such a big problem currently for us.

Everyone wants privacy in the bathroom from everyone else in the house/apartment, and we consider it our own "me" space. Having to share that with other people throughout the day somehow hurts that idea.
Is it really a good idea? Not really. Just more rooms you have to clean, more maintenance you have to do if something goes wrong, etc, but damned if we don't love our privacy.
>>
>>70178537
Seattle also isn't that expensive compared to new york.

Also when he lost his job he was spending just as much so he has money coming from somewhere.
>>
>>70179708
He remembers his apartment as bigger than it was and the girls he dated as hotter than they were.
>>
>>70185381
It's a multi-tennant apartment. Everyone gets their own bed+bath, +1 extra toilet for guests to use, which is right by the front door and commons area of the apartment.
Which is pretty much the only way for an apartment like that to be paid for, by having multiple tennants in the same space.

>>
>>70184315
This is only a problem in huge cities. You can have a 2 story house with hundreds of acres for like 300k in Montana. It's just that people don't want to live in smaller towns, they want to experience the city and they deserve to pay for it.

>plant (n.) Broader sense of "any vegetable life, vegetation generally" is first recorded 1550s. Most extended usages are from the verb, on the notion of "something planted;" such as "construction for an industrial process," 1789, at first with reference to the set-up of machinery, later also the building.
