The way I see it, Skyler is supposed to be an annoying bitch who makes the viewer hate her for the way she treats Walt, fucking Ted, kicking him out of the house, pestering him about that damn car wash, etc.
That way it's much more effective later on when Walt overtakes her as the unlikable one and she becomes the victim. It shows how corrupt Walt became by the end of the series.
Not that she was likable in Season 5 though. Walt was just worse.
