Ah, all those war movies around that time creating highly unrealistic romanticizes of America in wartime. Pearl Harbor and The Patriot were my favorites.

Yes.
The ending completely ruined it. Nevermind the fact that no fighter pilot would put his feet inside a heavy bomber, or that several months happened between the Pearl Harbor attack and the Doolittle raid when the movies makes you think it was almost instantaneous, it had almost zero impact other than for propaganda purposes, and the USN was already on its way to win the war by the point. It was just put into the movie just so the good guys could have a "victory" as phony as it is.

B-25s are classified as medium bombers, and even that's a stretch. And by the time they started fitting forward firing machine guns and cannons to them for strafing duty, they were flown a lot more like heavy fighters. And yes, pilots often changed between different plane types.
That wasn't one of the bad things about the movie. And there were so many things that really were bad to pick from.
