The implementation of western superpowers is clunky and poorly thought out at best. It's also inconsistent as hell and heavily based on Mary Sue/deus ex machina events.
Meanwhile in Japan they aren't perfect either but they at least try to lend some credibility to all the over the top shit happening by explaining in depth how things work in the universe. Some semblance of consistency leads to engaging uses of powers that doesn't feel like a 5 year old imagining an "XTREME" action scene.
