You can replicate grain, but it's not the same as the actual grain structure of film. Film is constructed with grains of silver that are uniquely dispersed over the enitre film strip giving it, its signature texture. Digital can replicate the grain, but its not 1:1 due to the grain distribution not being truly random.

Because they're obsessed with film (like actual physical film stock) and they're in a position where they actually have the budget to shoot on 70mm film stock, so why wouldn't they? It's pretty fucking beautiful when used properly.
I'm so hyped for this film desu, finally a WWII movie, a movie where we are guaranteed no modern day politically correct BS, no diversity hires, no pandering.
Just the story of a great rescue - the thousands of ordinary British sailors who hopped onto their yachts and fishing boats and sailed the channel to pick up wounded troops in their shallow draft boats and bring them onto the largest ships and the medical boats.
And the story of a great sacrifice- the thousands of French troops who held the line against the German army when they finally decided to advance onto the beaches again, sacrificing their lives, electing to stay behind and die in Europe than flee to the isles, showing the same bravery they showed in WWI.
I really hope this film includes all of this, and the state of the chaotic beaches, tanks, equipment, boats, weapons, gear all stranded and abandoned, making for a beautiful visual scene as the German army breaks through the French line of defense and reaches the beach, eerily quiet now, only the wounded troops who couldn't be transferred in time remaining.
