I'll start by saying that I have never seen a bad thing said about this movie on /tv/, and for years and years people recommended to watch it, and the other day I finally did.
All I have to say is /tv/ was absolutely right. This movie is great from start to finish. No wasted scenes, no contrived scenes, every scene pushes the story forward. The acting is great, the effects are great, the story is great, the soundtrack is spectacular.
Best of all this movie does not treat the viewer as dumb. it just gets right into the movie and expects the viewer to be able to grasp the situation and the way of life aboard a ship by themselves. I commend the filmmakers for doing that.

Was good because they didn't explain why the children were on the ship. The viewer eventually figures out that they are British naval officers in training. And then you realize that these kids have more authority on the ship than veteran sailors. And then you further realize that Britain trained children to be seafarers. And then you realize how many of the men were born into a sailors life.

I found it at walmart the a few months ago in the $5 bin while my girlfriend and I were grocery shopping. I got all excited and grabbed it. She gave me a puzzled look.

Saw it last week at around 11 pm out of pure boredom wanting something to put me to sleep and it was just fucking fantastic. Too bad there won't be a sequel.
