What's Trout Mask Replica of film?
Anyone who says they enjoy this album is just a pretentious fuck getting ready to tell you why they're so superior in their musical taste.
I mean, I understand that it's more art than music.. But fuck free jazz holy shit.
lost highway

Not even /mu/, but I listened to that album on repeat one night in high school on my gf's roof deck while marathoning two bottles of dxm, and can assure you that it's not free jazz.

That being said, I can't even think of a film strange enough yet liked pretentiously to even compare to this album
Eraserhead.

What are you even trying to say?
>>70030206
>tmr is just free jazz
>free jazz is bad
>>70030206
Free jazz is highly improvised.
TMR had every note written and was rehearsed for a year before being recorded/performed.

But Eraserhead and Lost Highway are both coherent and well-made

yeah, thanks for recapping my post.
Great contribution my friend

Ok, well everything I've read on it refers to it as free jazz so idk man

I'm down with this

I wasn't involved in the above argument, but this post is immediatley clear to me as an excellent, succinct demonstration of why That Thing don't actually be like they say it do.

I'm saying it isn't free jazz, and clearly you haven't listen to any before. Lumping TMR in with the likes of coleman, don cherry etc. is stupid. TMR is an album which incorporated jazz in a very precise manner, like >>70030298
said. TMR is like Buckley's starsailor, its a mix of genres, classifying it as one doesn't make sense.
Probably something by Jodorofsky
El Topo or Holy Mountain would be my bet.
Absurdist, intentionally, aggressively weird. Sometimes grating, but commendable for being out there in a time where that wasn't really accepted in the medium.
