What irish movies should I know?
Not necessarily political.
Even though there were no fucking horses in the movie.

It's the place in the bible were Jesus was crucified ya git.

My Left foot is essential potatocore
>>70017240
See also The Guard with same director + Gleeson
>>70017185
Well this one is definitely political. And pro-socialist too.
Is Michael Collins from 1996 better? I barely remember it.
>>70017240who killed the dog ad why was it CIA?
Based Taffin with Pierce Brosnan

>>70017185
Watch Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Can't wait for season 3.
>>70017185
Sucked.
>>70017240
Good, not great though.
>>70017281
Sucked, though I like the political butthurt it caused.
>>70017842
im already watching it and im 3 episodes in.
Not really potatoe kino though.
>>70018052
True. But the IRA pop up now and then
>>70018072
fair enough. And I really like the series.
There's also Bloody Sunday but that's the other Ireland.
Fucking Taigs
Every IRA sympathizing republicuck needs to be hanged for war crimes
>>70017804
magnificent trailer, famalam.
Anyone seen this one?
Is it any good?
>>70018095
dun't be touchin me red right 'and mate
braveheart is an irish one, innit?
Does this count as potatoe kino?
Irishfag here.
The Butcher Boy is god-tier.
The Field is great. Richard Harris is phenomenal.
In The Name Of The Father.
Michael Collins.
Adam & Paul
>>70018203
Yes. It's excellent
>>70018199
Were you sad when he was kill anon?
>>70018270
You were watching TCM today? Weren't you?
>>70017185
I Went Down is the best Irish movie ever made, fact. As of a few years ago there was literally only a shitty VHS rip up on torrent sites, so if you like 'em relatively obscure, that's your boy.
The Commitments is good, too, and if you like The Commitments there's a couple of other Roddy Doyle adaptations (also with Colm Meaney).
>>70017240
It was good, but it hampered itself by trying to be great, imo. And the worst child actor I've ever seen. Loved Dylan Moran in it, though, and Gleeson is always solid, see I Went Down for instance.
>>70017742
>NGHEYE LUVV YEW EILEEEEEN
But seriously yeah, damn good movie. Based Day-Lewis. Solely because of this film, it was common to refer to the mentally handicapped as "christies" when I was a kid.
>>70017240
There was a horse in that movie though. Dylan Moran was riding one.
haven't seen into the west or garage mentioned yet
>>70018137
it's all ireland
>>70018450
>The Commitments
Mah lad.
The Snapper, The Van, Into the West, The Commitments. All fine examples of /Ireland in the bleak late 80s-early 90s/-core.
>>70019112
>into the west
Yeah for good fucking reason. Who wants to see a bunch of pikey cunts literally named Tayto or whatever. Gas them all.
>>70019278
it is literally CulchieKino
>>70019278
you're just assblasted cos you'll never go riding way out west
>>70019341
Big difference between culchie and traveller, boss. Culchies eat porridge, fuck their cousins and go to de dishco on a Friday night. Travellers eat stolen porridge, rape their sisters and steal scrap metal after being refused into de dishco.
Angelas Ashes is good,
The General is too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxUVztOkYr0
Also, In The Name Of The Father/ The Boxer if you like day lewis
Intermission for banter with Farrell and Killian Muprhy, fairly decent too:

>>70017185
Not a movie but I really enjoyed Charlie.

The Grasser
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IredxtwG2ZU
This gave me some feels. Also deals with the subject of my girlfriend's son so it's right up /tv/'s alley.
>>70017281
This film was made by someone who clearly did absolutely no research or even ATTEMPT to make it vaguely realistic.
The film was like a parallel universe Northern Ireland at some points

shame on you /tv/
Best Irish film no one I know has ever seen is 'Saltwater' (2000) with the legend, Brian Cox and Tomo from Sperm.com
Some of me other favourites. A lot obvious.
Some are merely set in Ireland.
>Into the West
Nostalgia, but it's actually a wonderful film
>The Commitments
An old classic
>The Field
Harris was born to play the role. Amazing.
>Barry Lyndon
One of the greatest films ever.
>My Left Foot
Great. Could've been a load of mawkish shite.
>The Butcher Boy
Liked it more than I thought I would as I think the kid would be annoying.
>Ryan's Daughter
Unreal cinematography. That scene in the storm was worth the year wait Lean took.
>Intermission
It's a bit of fun. Nothing amazing. Colm Meaney is a legend.
>Song of the Sea
Stunning. The Irish Studio Ghibli.
>>70022784
Jesus, me grammar. I've been sleep deprived for a few days now and working like a dog.
Some of those sentences are incomprehensible.
Ah well.
>>70022445
I don't even rate Irish girls, still literally went to school with hotter chicks. Do not see the hype at all.
Inside I'm Dancing
>>70023222
It was a good performance from McAvoy but the end let it down.

Not Potatokino per se but Black Books, Shaun of the Dead and Run Fatboy Run are all essential Morancore

>>70017185
Perrier's Bounty

Man About Dog
The General
>>70017185
What's that movie where the IRA kidnaps a nigger and kills him, but then the guy who killed the nigger goes to cuck him by shagging his girlfriend?
>>70027496
You are thinking Neil Jordans The crying game, if you plan on actually watching it do not look up any spoilers whatsoever for THAT twist.
>>70027496
The Crying Game. Man, was that a good movie.
>>70018345
Seconding Adam & Paul.
>>70021609
Small world isn't it, old friend of mine actually played music with that guy.
Man About Dog is a good, pointless, funny movie.
>>70027781
>>70027827
I've seen it, that twist got me out of nowhere, was not expecting it, really didn't like the movie.

Is In Bruges Irish?
>>70028523
Yes, no, kind of, not really, a bit, somewhat etc.
>>70024909
run fatboy run is pure shit
>>70028002
o shit mine too
WHERE THE FUCK IS PIC RELATED, LOYALIST SCUM
>>70028710
That fucking Yankee revenant has no business making movies about the Troubles.
>>70028584
>catholicism the action comedy
It's very Irish
>>70028523
Irish director and two Irish actors, so kinda.
>>70027983
Lenny Abrahamson has set the bar too high for himself with Adam and Paul and I'm skeptical if he'll be able to top that film.
What Richard did got better when the fight went down, Frank felt like a better drama than a comedy. Room is a good film apart from the sound choices (voiceover/music) which rob it of perfection.
>>70028862
>>70017185
In Bruges.
Okay it's not an Irish film per se, however Farrell and Gleeson are fantastic and the movie itself is really fucking good, at times hilarious. And Bruges is so picturesque, not a shithole at all.
>They're filming midgets!
>>70029947
That was pretty good, even if it was only a spudfucker reskin of some cheese-eating surrender monkey shit.
>tfw no qt22/7 culchie gfAnd of course she obviously ended up with the rich kid, let's not fool ourselves.
