What was so special about this show /tv/ ?
It came out at the perfect time, the early 90s, where simple, naive, kids oriented media was all over the place

Even though the jokes are predictable and repeated every episode (Carlton = short, Uncle Phil = Fat, Will hits on women, etc) they're still funny because Will Smith is so charismatic.
Nigkino
the cast.
and uncle phil throwing out jazz never gets old.

Like >>70015245 said, it came out at the right time, when black people aspired to be civilized and weren't carrying that victim complex and indoctrinated by identity politics, so a show like this could easily be enjoyed by both races.

Will Smith wasn't a pompous dick yet.

comfy niggers behaving like decent people instead of "fuk da police modafuka im gonna pop a cap in yo azz"
The "How come he don't want me, man?" still makes me feel.
Can you make me a sandwich?

But why though? I can't think of a joke that is so predictable and so repeated in the medium's history that can still get a laugh like Jazz getting thrown out

Good-looking, charismatic negro.
I remember hearing how the actor who played Carlton told Smith that he better use his real name in the show because that's how everyone will remember him.
I think it was set up to be a hit.
